Not sure why we should stop eating meat, fish or anything else which tastes really good!

The three main reasons that people change to a vegan diet (in no particular order) are

1. For the environment. Vegan food uses maybe a tenth of the land/water/resources that it takes to feed a meat eater. The reduction in greenhouse gasses methane and CO2 is huge. The increase in biodiversity enabled by a massive movement away from farmland used for animals is also significant.

2. Animal welfare. 59 billion animals are kept on farms for meat eaters. Many of these animals live miserable lives in appalling conditions. Think huge, packed, concrete floored sheds.

3. Health. Fruit and veg are good for you. Jermaine Defoe credits a vegan diet for keeping him at the top of his game well into his 30's. Serena Williams does too.

I love the taste of meat and fish. I am a foodie, I enjoy every meal. But I also like animals, I like to stay healthy and I like to know that I am doing my bit to maintain a sustainable environment for the future of my family and the rest of the human race. So I choose veganism. My wife and I are also good cooks, so our food tastes good.

I'm not sure that you will convert anyone here no matter how logical your arguments as the decision to turn vegetarian or vegan tends to come from within and not from third parties.

I'm not sure that I could turn vegan but giving up meat would be a lot easier as I cook and eat a lot of Middle Eastern food anyway much of which isn't meat based

I wasn't trying to convert particularly. I realise choices come from within. My tipping point moment came when I was offered a Lobster that was still alive. I was on a beach in India and this guy was looking for 25p to kill this amazing creature for my lunch. I never turned back from veganism after that.

I was posting on the football page about Zaha megging Ozil in the Arsenal game and I noticed a bit of piss taking about my username, so I thought I would lance the boil and increase awareness.

^^^^
Eating Larry the lobster - and only for 25 rupees - is pretty harmless for the environment and healthy plus they've had a free range life up to the point of being caught in a pot.

I had just broken up from my long term gf, so I was feeling a bit sorry for myself, I suddenly related to the suffering that happens to animals and pondered my karmic influence based on the choice to be compassionate. The rest is history.

I've eaten in a lot of restaurants where the lobsters are kept live in a tank and I must admit that I'm squeamish enough never to have ordered one.

Fair dos. At the very least an animal bound for the dinner plate should have the basic right to a decent life before the end no matter how short. We have laws but obviously not stringent enough. A vegan PM would be quite interesting.
