Hate to burst everyones bubble. I think this was always a lot of hot air anyway and I think a lot of people under estimated what a huge signing this would be. I would have him over Austin everyday of the week but Charlie Austin would still be a real coup if at all possible.

Remy saying he wants to stay and fight for his place is a totally different thing to Mourinho saying he's staying and a vital part of the squad. Nothing in that article suggests that if we make the right offer he wouldn't be sold by Chelsea.

Mourinho in today's Guardian on Remy leaving: "No chance."

Oh well, next.

If people should learn one thing from football if nothing else its what those within it say today is not necessarily what they say tomorrow. Especially the likes of Mourinho.

True. If Mourinho had gone "Yeah, hopefully we'll flog that useless tart he's not good enough for Chelsea" that wouldn't have exactly kept Remy's transfer value high and kept the player happy if nothing had come off. It might still happen, although I admit I'm a fair bit less hopeful now.

I think it has to be regarded now as highly unlikely.

Mourinho has indicated publicly he doesn't want him to leave. And that he doesn't want to have to strengthen in that position.

And Remy has indicated he is happy to fight for his place.

So for me - it's looks done.

It's obviously not inconceivable it could be ressurected, but it would look extremely unlikely. Which would mean a much greater focus on other targets - the likes of Austin, Bamford, etc.

Of course. I just think adding things up with the player and manager on top of the fact that nothing was ever even near concrete anyway makes it highly unlikely.

Who's to even say remy's preference would be us were he to back track on his statements? This never escalated from recycled paper talk to anything at all.

It's a shame but hopefully Parish's announcement of 2 by the morning will include a quality striker from elsewhere!
