George Alagyah's brave fight against bowel cancer ended RIP. He covered the Rwanda genocide and much more and had charm and empathy. Makes you grateful if you can get though unscathed, 67 is hardly old.

Should their BBC colleague George Aligyah dying of cancer at 67 be the TOP news story? Just wondered really a post-retirement age, terminally ill, ex employee died ? surely that is a bigger story than Ukraine or an imminent World Recession.

It is becoming increasingly hard not to be cynical.

There has been plenty of coverage of his death in other media outlets. Journalists love to write obituaries about their colleagues. RIP

Personally I think it's old.....I don't want them raising that pension age even further.

Anyone in the public eye dying early after a struggle with cancer who has said wise words during the fight is an inspiration to others. Inspiring others in their own fights is an honourable thing and for it to be reported widely is responsible and helpful. To read some of the remarks which followed yours filled me with disgust. 67 is very early these days. Anyone expecting to retire at 65, as our fathers did, have lost touch with reality. We are all living longer and so will need to work longer too. Semi-retirement is already the norm for many and will be for many more in the future. I am almost 80 and am still not fully retired! While you can, you should! It’s what society needs.

I know that years ago 67 was ancient but I like you feel after 50 years work the last years are deserved. Putting plenty in should merit getting something back.

How old are you Cryrst?....13 years away for me. Personally I'll be highly surprised if the pension is in its current form or still at 67 by then. As for thinking that hard graft deserves you putting your feet up.....I get that, but I heard that even if you work continuous from start to finish (which many won't have) then on average....those contributions are used up after 7 years. Starts to make you suspicious about covid doesn't it.

Wouldn't society be better off with more opportunities for young people rather than jobs being occupied by those over retirement age?
