I have to acknowledge defeat Willo.
It is impossible to penetrate your defence of Hodgson.
If only our defence was as resilient. Miserable and by your own admission awful performances are fully explained by the meagre resources supplied by the owners, the ageing defence, the pedestrian midfield, the injuries, the lack of pace in the team, the lack of reliable goalscorers.
The only person to escape criticism is Hodgson.
Quite remarkable!

With the greatest of respect, I don't see our differing viewpoints in terms of victory or defeat so as far as I am concerned you are not "Defeated"!

In the final analysis, nobody is perfect, we are all humans and as such prone to errors.I suspect Mr Hodgson in hindsight must reflect that at times he could have steered a different course.

In terms of his tenure at our club, I appreciate the parameters under which he has had to operate and to-date he has performed admirably in keeping us in the PL season-upon-season.

Did Hodgson freeze as well as the team?
Gary Neville as his coach was quoted as saying he pleaded with Hodgson to make changes but met with no response from Hodgson.

As fans I suppose our views are sometimes determined by our preconceived view of a manager. Some critics of Hodgson quote his records with Liverpool and England to support their argument.
Others such as yourself have total respect for him and won't accept any criticism of him whatsoever.
I think it's reasonable to occasionally criticise, even if one is generally supportive of a player or manager.
For example I'm a huge fan of Zaha, but am not blind to his faults as a player.

Ray said that the team was well prepared as ever and everyone was fully aware of their jobs but that they just 'Froze' on the night.Happens in football from time to time.

I of course have a great deal of respect for Mr Hodgson but I can only repeat that no manager is above criticism.

One can consider individual games and question certain team selections and the choice and timing of substitutions but overall he has performed with some aplomb ensuring that we have stayed in the PL with an ageing squad and a £10 Mill net-spend.

There are few managers, if any that can be successful with every club they manage. Hodgson's England record was ultimately disappointing as was his time with Liverpool. On the other hand he did well at both Fulham and WBA and is fondly remembered by those clubs' fans, it seems.

He transformed the Swiss National Team and did well in Sweden, of course. Haven't looked at his record in Italy and elsewhere, but in PL terms it seems he can do a decent job for the smaller clubs who want to stay in the top league. Whilst ever staying in the league is the Board's number 1 priority, they may well keep Hodgson until either he decides it's time to go or the Board feel we are ready to move to the next level.

The easy Iceland / froze pun will not be used.

Willo, your observations over the years IMHO are generally excellent and use things like pesky facts.

The R.O.B are fairly entrenched in their views and unlikely to be argued to a different view.

I don't care what views people have but when the starting point is something like

" I don’t like Roy’s tactics, I never have, whether he was at England, Liverpool or Palace. I hate his style of football and as such I would rather he was out the club as soon as we can find a suitable replacement. It is as simple as that"

then it's clear that whatever facts you present will not change such an entrenched position.

You can remind people of the crisis we were in when Roy arrived or that we are so far having our best ever season in the PL and it will make no difference.

Hey ho, let's keep pushing for as many points as we can this season and enjoy success in whatever form it appears

As opposed to just inventing views you seem so intent to ridicule, how about posting your own?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

To be fair to HKOwen, the view he expressed in quotes is that of Eaglecoops verbatim, so not an invention (see p313).

pesky facts

Eaglecoops is of course entitled to dislike the manager, no one is saying he isn't.

He has put his cards on the table and fair enough,
but it does add a certain amount of salt to his constant criticism of the manager.

My view, which is mine, my own etc is that luck in football is intrinsic, we have had many bits of ' bad luck " before and after VAR.

As Eaglecoops doesn't like the manager, I am not keen on the posts that damn with feint praise when we have a result.

For me, enough of this and moving on to Fulham.Let's hope we have a pure win.

If he plays more attacking footy and we put in performances he may win games and the fans back, that is the real crux of it I feel. He can do that as hes done it in the past. Why not now is baffling as basically he has the same squad.
One day we will drop, its inevitable most teams do.
Championship footy was great until it became a business!

I think you partly answer your own question. Same squad yes... but older. Not the only issue but a big one + injuries.

As for championship footy being great...I can certainly remember some woeful seasons down there and would like to avoid going back for as long as possible.

I was stunned at a response that Roy gave at today's press conference

Q Are any of the players who are coming close to the end of their contract - are their talks ongoing to extend their stay?

A I haven't had any contact or discussion with either the chairman or with sporting director on that subject.

It's quite possible that behind the scenes agents are talking and the club are talking, but as far as I know there's no definite steps being taken either one way or the other. But I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of talk is going on in the background.

I think that there are a dozen players whose contracts expire at the end of the season and the manager doesn't know who's contracts will be renewed and who will be allowed to leave.

He's bluffing. Close this thread someone.
