Nicely put Stirling. Perhaps negotiations are taking place that we don't know about, ala IRA. (we can hope) The giving/selling of arms to Ukraine is given the much greater fanfare by The West, than any peace talks. The West was very much the provocateur in this by seeking to expand NATO in a move designed to get a reaction. Think of all the CEO's and stakeholders (perhaps former Government members) of arms companies who get to trial new killing systems and raise share value. And increase sales significantly.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

You're a fantasist, I've just read the article....did you? It has nothing to say of any importance and is mostly a rant about Putin being a bad person. Tell me what makes this the 'best analysis'? Politics for children.

I fully agree. Only the gullible believe any morality over Ukraine. This is a political, economic and military football between the west and Russia and now increasingly the BRICs system. My own analysis has been that militarily the Ukraine isn't a war the west can win using mixing Ukrainians with Nato equipment. To win you would need Nato's armies and we know that this isn't going to be done. They always planned to win this war economically but that's ended up making the world worst for everybody and actually hurting us more than Russia....It's cemented a cold war in place that helps China massively....the consequences of that down the line for us in the west isn't good. It's madness....the elites are meant to improve the lives of their peoples not worsen them. In my view we have had low quality elites for decades now. It's a game for them, none of this hurts them personally. But they have plenty of easily manipulated emotional children who are willing to believe their media and one sided narratives....and that's whether it's Russian or western. Edited by Stirlingsays (15 Jul 2022 11.35am) I genuinely struggle with the idea that they 'planned' to win this war by economic sanctions. This war is actually making Russia richer. This is the utter insanity of it. If you wanted to devise a policy that deliberately screwed over much of Western Europe then this is a bloody good version of that. And it is not just the potential dangers of vast swathes of Western Europe being unable to heat their home in the coming winter. It is the wider impact on the economies which have been underpinned by access to Russian gas. The sheer scale of the potential disaster that is coming Europe's way is starting to stagger me. We are talking, potentially, up to a decade long depression.

I appreciate that the subject of German industrial output is not the most interesting but when you understand that the entire Euro is effectively underpinned by it, then this article is a sobering read..

Edited by Matov (15 Jul 2022 11.58am) We are, of course, only humble outsiders looking in but I think they seriously thought that the west's power could convince countries like India and China to back away from Russia...and hence most of the G20. I think that was the serious miscalculation they made. I'm not of the view that they wanted to start a cold war. But having started one they doubled down rather than destroy themselves politically....crabs in a barrel dragging us all down. I do seriously think it's a case of low quality elites who suffer from group think....we saw it with covid and we see it with the Ukraine. I don't go with the idea that it's a deliberate plan for the 'reset'. That's another level of design and plan in my view that doesn't require a cold war. Edited by Stirlingsays (15 Jul 2022 12.12pm)
