The sad fact is that a huge proportion of the population are just stupid. I was standing outside Sainsbury in the queue with the oldies and the old dear in front of me told another old dear that she had heard that the lockdown could go on for months saying that "this Government are just useless" She was possibly thinking about letting the Italian flights in unchecked for weeks before lockdown, or letting all the midlands based PPE go to Germany, Italy and Spain instead of taking up the offer to take it themselves, while organising a flight to Turkey to pick some PPE up, that took 4 days, and arrived half loaded? Maybe she thought that after neglecting front line NHS workers of PPE, until over 100 died, then finally offering them a text, but making it a 60 mile round trip, to someone without a car, could be classed as useless? Now is not the time obviously to take the government to account, but i think the old lady might be a tad smarter than you think!,,,,,,,,,,,,, “ Now is not the time obviously to take the Government to account” .... but I’m going to anyway!

Today Gatwick received a flight from Algiers! I have it on good authority that not all passengers on board were British Citizens or Returning Residents. Can anyone on here explain why I am not allowed to visit my daughter who lives in a 1st floor 1 bed flat in Guildford but we allow people to enter from Algeria? I am at a loss to explain this

Or maybe they were Algerian nusres, doctors and cleaners coming over to work in the hospitals at the request of hm gov? Who knows!

I am not sure where you are coming from here. I mentioned Algeria as that is where the flight was from, in fact I was actually having a go at Government policy, something you are normally more than happy to do.

Never had you down as racist spider, and still don"t ! No, was just saying we don"t know what the non british citizens you mentioned were coming for, and they might have actually been the calvary to help out in the NHS, but if you are starting to criticise the gov handling of this crisis please go ahead, i"m all ears!

Thank you no racist tendencies in the Spider household. However I can confirm there were no NHS cavalry on the flight but I cannot divulge anything else (official secrets act and all that). My original point still stands regarding the anomaly between allowing people to travel from abroad but I can’t travel to Guildford. I have always criticised the Government policy of not closing the borders but that is nothing to do with racism, just common sense really

I am at a loss to explain this Possibly rescue flights? My daughter was stuck in Morrocco when this all first kicked off so followed the various social media feeds from the British Embassy in Rabat and so on, so still get the info. And they have been putting on rescue flights, or rather organising for commercial airlines to be given landing and take-off permission by way of trying to repatriate British citizens so I would hazard a guess that this has been a similar occurrence in Algeria? Yes, British citizens would be the primary customers but I would also guess that there might be others (for example my daughter at the time did have an option of flying back to a French or Belgium airport on other rescue flights) who have residency rights in the UK?
