You just strike me as someone who lives in the past, no forward thinking, no ambition, just being happy with what we currently have, which in the last half season is some pretty poor football. Forget the league position, forget the points total, forget the fluke results, look at the way we are currently playing and tell me whether it is a good PL standard. I have never asked for sexy football, simply for gradual progression as a club. Oh and you totally failed to answer the question I asked and answered a question I didn’t ask instead. I simply asked whether you thought we played better in Roy’s first two years or after that and more particularly now? I really have no idea what you are trying to achieve with your post. I admit I don’t like Roy’s tactics but I know what the issues are with the team we have and if you can’t see them then you truly are blind to our current plight.

If we beat Fulham Roy has to go, why can't people see that it's so obvious..........

So be like one of Brighton, Fulham or (pre Sam anyways) West Brom? Wouldn't say he has done a good or bad job just pretty much what is expected, doesn't change how old he is tho, its inevitable he will retire sooner rather than later and the club needs to do what is best for the club not roy. Tbh if zaha stays in the summer then not much is going to change in terms of how we play, roy could do another season, if zaha goes and we do have an overhaul then might aswell include the manager aswell Pointless letting Hodgson rebuild a team to suit his tactics for him to retire a year later Edited by rikz (25 Feb 2021 12.38am)

Excellent post right here It's a pesky fact that you can't compare directly quality of play from one season to another as the opposition is not fixed and constantly changing. So the " are we playing better or worse than 2/3 years ago " is meaningless. Based on actual results , again something tangible. this is our best season in the PL at this point in the season. AN individual not liking the team " style " or failing to be " entertained " is meaningless in the great scheme of Palace and the annual quest for PL survival. Originally posted by est1905

Thank you, somebody has quite reasonably raised the issue of age rather than perceived ability. Good post with well made points Originally posted by rikz

An overhaul (IMO) will only occur if not enough of those whose contracts are up for renewal choose to move on. Yes, I expect the club to release some, but I will be surprised if most are not offered extensions. However, if there is an overhaul (for whatever reason) who will the board trust to oversee it AND at the same time keep the club's PL status? If not Hodgson, then it will have to be someone they are really confident can achieve both aims. It will be interesting to see how things unfold over the next few months.

If we have actually hit the glass ceiling as a club, or at least until the academy begins to produce, and our only target/ambition each season now is retention in the premier league then you are 100% right I want to see an improvement in performances..what else do we have?! I want to be entertained. This stagnation we are seeing now, no ambition to progress in cups, scrape enough points each season to stay in the league whats the point of it all? The only ones who are really getting any value from this are the shareholders and the players when looking at their salaries each month. Entertainment does not mean tippy tappy style football. This is a lazy rebuttal from the Roy supporters. I have not had expectations of Palace playing this way, its not in our DNA I do not believe any palace fan is asking for this. The De Boer comments are just as lazy. If on the other hand we do have some ambition to try to keep moving forward, to progress as a club, target a top 10 finish then in my imo we need a new manager. Over the course of the season Roys tactics are effective. Roy has been and is during his tenure been effective in accumulating sufficient points every season. I think it just boils down to many Palace fans wanting more. Just because those on the other side of the fence are happy the way things are and just accepting of whats being served up does not mean we are all of the same opinion. I dont judge anyone on their opinion thats absolutely fine, I respect many want to support the Manager and want him to continue and allow him to go again next year. Many just demand more from Palace and want to see Palace at least try to keep moving forward.

I am pretty much on est1905's side on this (although he needs to remember we were a functioning club way before 1905!) but do see your point of view on the quality of football before us. What I wish the Roy Out brigade would drop - and drop fast - is this constant reference to us winning only when blessed by bizarre fortune but every defeat must lie at the feet of Hodgson and systemic failures he is solely responsible for. It's rubbish. It only works if you deduct the games where we have been very unlucky from the games where we have been lucky and you still get a positive. Make your points, by all means, lord knows I want our club associated with more attractive football; but please don't spout errant nonsense to justify an argument. It just dilutes it.

Many just demand more from Palace and want to see Palace at least try to keep moving forward. Our DNA is concede possession but hit hard and very fast on the counter through speedy wingers. It meant enduring a siege mentality but enjoying lightening breaks that quickened the pulse and sometimes resulted in a goal. We won some, drew a few and lost a lot and ended up below where Roy ball now leaves us, save with a very nervy last few months and probably relegation We got found out, you see. Roy has taken that risk out of the equation. Dull and safe -v- exciting and risky, that is the choice. And since you can't seem to have both on our budget, the opinion is divided and polarized and we end up with 300 + pages on this topic.. and running. For me, remaining premier league is the critical factor and tips the balance Roy's way. I don't like it, but to sit on the other side and risk relegation seems madness, especially at a time of unprecedented financial pressure and uncertainty.

Many just demand more from Palace and want to see Palace at least try to keep moving forward. Excellent post. I was thinking recently, who wants to see their team constantly performing a reargard action, where the opposition have 70% plus of the ball? Which team's players do we want to watch on the ball? Ours or theirs? As much as I can appreciate heroic blocks, last ditch tackles and all the rest, there is a balance to the game imho that is lacking in the current set up. And, as other posters have noted, no one is asking for Barcelona style football. Just a little bit more ambition other than sticking all 11 players behind the ball for long stretches of the game. Seriously, who wants to watch that for evermore? Edited by southnorwoodhill (25 Feb 2021 10.36am)
