I’m glad we ended our interest, massively under achieved with a better squad at Wolves, be funny to watch Mendes spunk leveys money on crap Portuguese players. I don't think Nuno will be an appointment that will convince Kane they can win trophies either. It does reek of a panic move, perhaps not dissimilar to us moving for Viera (albeit I am cautiously optimistic). You have to say though, Benitez must have some massive cojones to take the Everton job; basically he has to win a trophy or qualify for CL or he'll be chased out with pitchforks.

Really hoping there will be an announcement on this today. Can you imagine, what with the players contracts expiring yesterday, if he did a Favre/Nuno and changed his mind? We’d probably have to go and beg Steve Cooper to come and be our manager since everybody else has been snapped up! Doesn’t bear thinking about.

Strange that they were looking for an attacking manager and then went for one who focuses on defensive solidity and counter-attacking football...and he's Portuguese...hmmm. Anyway, if this is true [Link] then I think it's right we pulled the plug. Also, would Traore really move to us anyway? Edited by taylors lovechild (01 Jul 2021 8.48am) He stated: “He [Nuno] also wanted to take Adama Traore to Crystal Palace, and Crystal Palace were basically told by him, ‘do that deal and then I’ll join’. And they’re like, ‘no, we want you, we don’t want Adama Traore first, let’s get you and then we’ll do that’. And he’s like, ‘no, do it the other way around’ and they’re like ‘no’.” ‘And they’re like. And he’s like.’ Who wrote this great journalism?

Several media reports have stated that we want the new man in position by the time pre-season starts on Monday morning. That's when all the players who are in contract and not at the Euros or Copa America start back at work. There shouldn't be too much of a rush to get a parking space at least. If the deadline is accurate then we should have an announcement this week. Personally, I'm not convinced that the new manager technically needs to be there for Monday morning - the players mostly just do fitness tests and suchlike for the first few days - but it would of course be better if they could be met by the new boss first thing. I also wouldn't be surprised if most of the out of contract players were invited to do pre-season with us. It will be very much in their interest to get a professional pre-season under their belts even if they aren't staying at Palace. Edited by TheBigToePunt (01 Jul 2021 10.10am)

As a freelance writer living abroad I sometimes get invited to meet-ups of so-called digital nomads, many of whom I imagine talk and write like this (and therefore I prefer to remain alone in my house).

I wouldn't be surprised if the out-of-contract players turn up for training on Monday. What may also be interesting is where PV and SP are in quarantine (assuming they both are) and what pictures will be released at the announcement (assuming, of course that it is all a done deal).

Edited by TheBigToePunt (01 Jul 2021 10.10am) There doesn’t appear to be a big queue for our out of contract players. They will hang around hoping to be resigned, they were on good contracts, they wouldn’t get elsewhere.

Are both not in the UK? I thought PV was working for itv as a pundit in their studio?

Unless there is any truth in the rumour that SP has been charging around Europe in pursuit of Favre, there should be no issues around quarantine. Unless the players have been on holiday without due care and attention of course.
