Not sure where you have heard that from, that’s certainly not what the article is alleging... - ‘ Sage participants told the Guardian the Downing Street advisers were not merely observing the advisory meetings, but actively participating in discussions about the formation of advice.’ This story has picked up more traction this morning than I expected so I’m sure there will be further investigation in the coming weeks and potentially pressure to release minutes from the meetings. The crux is that these are supposed to be ‘independent’ public health meetings for qualified scientists and government experts... not political strategists. What were criteria for Cummings admission to SAGE? He doesn't have a degree in a science based subject (or PhD, or postdoctoral training or publications in eminent journals, or experience running research group. The word independent certainly can be questioned if his only qualification is that he is part of the PMs chief team. Of course Cummings is well within his rights to give his summary of the SAGE meetings to the PM and advise based off that, but the allegation that he played an active role in shaping policy is concerning, especially when our reaction in the early stages differed so much to the rest of Europe. This is the governments response to these allegation as reported by the BBC and others. I don't know the truth and neither does anyone on this board. This will go away unless someone on the committee comes forward and says Cummings was also interfering. One person has put their head above the parapet though ""However, National Health Service England's medical director Stephen Powis, who is one of the few publicly known members of Sage, told the programme he was “confident what happens at Sage is a scientific discussion involving the scientists and the experts who are members”. I don't know whether you are aware but right now there is a surge of conspiracy theories in the USA involving the idea that Bill Gates is promoting vaccines for some kind of population control and that the real cause of the lockdown is not C19 but the roll out of 5G. As a consequence people are stating they won't accept a vaccine. USA produces a rare breed of moron. I understand with their welfare they want lockdowns ended asap or to have never happened but it does raise an eyebrow when you see long haired, bearded fellas on in American protests claiming it’s all a hoax and it isn’t really happening. Only raises an eyebrow as you almost expect it.

I find this sad at the present time, that still is political point scoring in evidence both in the media and on here. Let’s get through this and then hold the post mortem

Aren’t they likely never to leave the USA or their even their state? Isn’t that because they don’t get much leave? A lot over there get less than 20, often 15, days a year so don’t expect to travel abroad until they retire.

There is an awful lot of business travel too in the USA and it's that I am really thinking about. Now virtual conferencing has been seen to work why will companies want to lash out on trips to Vegas or Miami?

One of my US friends sent me a video only this morning, from a "doctor" that proposed that the virus was not natural but engineered to force us all to be vaccinated and that the vaccine would also be engineered to control our minds which would then be supervised by the 5G network. This guy really believes it and apparently the video has gone viral in the USA. The thing is that he is a normally perfectly reasonable, balanced guy who has been a good mate for years. It's strange.

Go for the middle class man alone and not the many teenagers in pairs or three’s on all high streets.

So the lockdown is over, B&Q have opened up over 100 stores and people are queuing everywhere. It’s who was going to blink first and the ££££’s won it. Now watch the infection rates go up and with it more deaths. Shameful and all that hard work down the drain! It was hammered home at a briefing in the last couple of days to keep complying as we mustn’t have a second wave. There are a few very selfish and thoughtless people around starting in Scotland!

I will keep saying the worst are the teenagers. 3 out sitting there eating chips together with their bikes near them. Heard one say ‘’ problem is you don’t know when it’s going to end.’’ No concept they’re contributing to it lasting longer. I doubt B&Q isn’t much different to a supermarket. It’s probably better and easier to social distance. Whether the staff do is another matter. But DIY isn’t essential so does raise the risk and exposure. Lots of it can be delivered anyway. But they’ve opened before competitors. That’s why.

I had an emergency and needed a new bathroom tap whilst I could turn the water off I didn't fancy not having a sink for months on end. There will be lots of these little domestic crisis amongst the bloke building a new wardrobe.
