One reason why the plug will not be pulled on Roy until after Chelsea is that if he was to go now it would give Brighton ammunition that THEY got rid of our Manager, not a clever thing to do me thinks.

That didn't stop Parish last year when he got rid of Vieira after the game at the Amex.

Me too, it’s bad enough occasionally reading through his and Hrolfs ranting on the politics pages. Frankly, they should probably restrict themselves to that audience of about 20 posters.

At a time when not much about Palace is making me smile, that actually made me chuckle.

Perhaps he has learnt a lesson from that.

We all know that Steve P. has to look at the bigger picture. But it should be pretty clear that the only way to (have a chance) avoiding relegation, is change of system and thus manager. We have to live with our two diamonds injury prone, but please, please stop put those square plugs in round holes. Meaning - no place for Hughes, Henderson and Schlupp to start with.

Roy's methods are not working and so the players are not buying into his coaching any longer and it shows on the field.
If any Manager is unable to coach his team properly and if those players can see that it doesn't work when they play then you have an unhappy camp along with performances that can only get worse.
I really do not believe that Roy will keep us up now.
Maybe the plan is to get relegated, sell the stars, build the stand, regroup and gain promotion with a new up and coming group of players - who knows.
Something has to change otherwise this really might be the season.

Firstly, you are, of course, entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine. It's simply that we disagree.

As to what would I like to Hodgson to do (if eh stays):

I would like him:

1. to recognize that we are currently unable to be set up to avoid the opposition scoring. That is now 12 consecutive league games in which we have conceded, and in 10 of those games we conceded the first goal scored in the game. And yet, Hodgson still insists on setting us up not to lose. Roy's system worked ok in the first 11 league games - we achieved no fewer than 5 clean sheets but then we lost Doucoure. It should have been obvious fairly quickly thereafter that we didn't have a suitable replacement in our ranks and so a change of system and tactics was required. But not to Hodgson it didn't.
2. to recognize that both Hughes and Schlupp are only likely to get worse, not better whereas some youngsters who have been given occasional outings are only likely to get better if given more regular game time. Furthermore, youngsters such as Franca, Ahamada and Ozoh have the incentive to prove themselves. Schlupp and Hughes are well past that stage IMO. The youngsters are probably both quicker and fitter than those two.
3. to use Franca or Ahamada as a no.10 in Eze's absence, so as to at least provide more of an attacking threat. Now that Rak-Sakyi is almost back, I would hope to see him in Olise's position very soon.
4. to practise attacking plays with our available attacking options rather than only focus on such when both Eze and Olise are available (something he implied in a recent interview).

Finally, the arrival of both Munoz and Wharton does seem to provide some hope as both are forward thinking players. I hope Hodgson will recognize that and include them from the start of upcoming games.

In short, I want Hodgson to set us up to try and win games rather than trying to park the bus. I know we have limited resources but it's clear (to me, and it seems most others who've commented in recent times on this site) that Hodgson's system isn't working and that he doesn't seem to have a Plan B.

I agree with all of this. If you listen to his interview with the FYP podcast he shows great pride in that his ideas are still used in Sweden. I think that says a lot. He has a method which has served him well throughout his career but the game has moved on. What has been obvious during this tenure and the previous one is that his system is heavily dependent on having a creative maverick like Zaha, Olise, Eze, etc., to make it work. During his last reign when Wilf was out we invariably lost. Not much has changed.

With regard to the injuries he has previously publicly said the medical team had been telling him to manage Olise and Eze's return. He didn't and now here we are. Eze shouldn't have played in the cup, both should have come off earlier against Brentford and Olise should never have been on the pitch at Brighton. The fact most fans could see what was going to happen makes the situation even more embarrassing.

I remain convinced that the only reason Roy is still in a job is the lack of credible candidates to take over.

Parish has not offered Hodgson any comments in the media regarding his job. Surely if he intended to retain him he would have done so by now.

I think some on here are as guilty of overreacting to those protesting at games ( who themselves are being accused of the same thing ! ). We are not ' toxic fans '. And that would not be a reason for potential candidates to not be interested in the job.

I think the reasons are pretty simple. Take one look at our squad. Then factor in the injuries to our two best players. Consider that with the transfer window closed, you are going to have to work with what you inherited. Take a look at the average tenure of managers under Parish ( there is one notable exception ). The club are firmly in a relegation battle.

If I were the likes of Potter, Cooper etc., I wouldn't be overkeen to risk my reputation trying to navigate that lot.

Of course money talks, but overpaying to hire someone isn't where you want to be either.

It's a shambles.

Let’s hope so. Even if there is a lack of credible permanent manager choices you don’t persist with the woeful situation that we have at the moment, purely in the hope that things must surely get better at some point.
