It's what they said. Trustees are, so far as I am aware, unremunerated volunteers, whose only role is to sign official papers, and deal with the distribution of assets in the event of a wind-up. I don't suppose that an interview was required. They play no role in determining policy, or in the daily work, unless they also have another role within the organisation. In most cases an organisation is pleased to have found someone to take on the role.

Yes, he resigned, but no doubt was asked to or be removed. Less stigma in resigning.

The daily work of this organisation looks a bit dodgy too.

In the club I belong to, the Trustees play no active role at all and never meet. Very occasionally they will sign paperwork to avoid the need to collect the signatures of every member. Their function is primarily as a back-up should the club fold.

So I think it depends on the sector. Trustees of charities seemingly have a wider role, but are still unpaid volunteers and not involved in the daily activity. There's not enough of them, and they are much in demand.

Why a school would ask for a CRB on someone without any direct involvement with the children beats me. I didn't think even the Governors were expected to have to do that. It seems overcautious.

How extensive an interview process goes on will, I suspect, depend on the organisation. Given the shortages of volunteers, they may have been very happy to have found a willing one.

At the end of the day, as a Childrens charity, they should have properly vetted anyone who is going to be associated with them. This obviously was not carried out,
With regard to DRB checks ( as they are now called), there are different levels, basic and advanced. There are other types for when you are acting as a chaperone at a theatre for example.
I suspect the school governors had them, due to the possibility of being in schools whilst pupils are present or even meeting pupils. Over cautious, possibly but covering themselves which is no bad thing.
I have had a basic DRB, which seems to involve checking PNC and SOR. I also had a Chaperones license which involved DRB check and a days course with Social Servjces, of course cannot totally guarantee childrens safety but it helps.
My son recently obtained an advanced DRB for work purposes, this seems to involve the above and a more in depth look into your background

I recently mentioned Menorca and I am reliably informed there are 131 beaches on this pretty and verdant island. Some of the beaches are not easily accessible by car with one having to park and then engage in a trek which of course is not possible for those with mobility issues.
On this island I have had the pleasure of sampling the delights of the beach at Son Parc, as well as at Es Grau and Sa Mesquida amongst others.

In mainland Spain, my thoughts turn to the extensive beach at Guardamar which is south of Alicante.

I have also been fortunate to feel the sand on some delightful beaches in Grenada, Jamaica and on other Caribbean Islands.

In Australia I have visited Manly in Sydney, Foresters Beach on the Central Coast,Surfers paradise and others but there are renowned beaches in this country, and in Tasmania which as yet I haven't had the pleasure of visiting.Only viewed Bondi Beach from a vehicle and I was none too impressed.

For avoidance of doubt, I have NOT been de-robed on any of these beaches !

Yet again, the requirement for education. I've never paid much attention to the concept of mansplaining but here it is.
OK, I don't doubt the integrity of your grandchild but one person's view isn't proof of anything.

Of course one’s person’s view proves nothing. I have not suggested it does. My grandchild has loads of contacts with others, via clubs and other groups, and has relayed what they have leaned from them. I too, as a consequence of having discussed this with them, have done more investigation to inform myself, which confirmed what I was told. So it’s not one person’s view.

I needed the education. We all learn every day and only a fool thinks they know everything. I certainly don’t, but am prepared to learn whenever a situation arises which is outside my comfort zone.

Without studying the legal requirements that seems a matter of opinion. If they broke the law no doubt someone will notice and mount a prosecution. I bet they will for his replacement whatever the law demands.

I am out of date with the detailed requirements for “DRB” checks. I had a CRB when I owned the nursery. My wife has had to obtain them several times. What’s frustrating is that one organisation cannot accept one prepared for another, even if was last week! So a new payment every time.

Proper oversight is very necessary for any charity operating in such a sensitive are, although when so many are wielding sharp knives and are ready to pounce on anything which can be portrayed negatively, that hardly seems needed for this one.

That's not education it's confirmation bias. All you're saying here is I'm right, you're wrong and if you knew more you wouldn't disagree with me.

Actually I think that is a good thing although I understand the frustration.

People who have dodgy CV's or background checks might blag it with one company but then get called out by another. A mate did this he hid his criminal record on his CV and go a job in Financial Services which should never have happened due to the nature of his offence.

However it was a small firm and they did not have the resources to fully check so he got away with it.

Today most companies now employ professional CV and background checkers if they don't they are idiots.

So whilst I sympathise if somebody has to go through that expense the alternative is employing somebody like the Soham scum because they didn't do their due diligence.
