Don't bother.

His only interest is to make defamatory comments about people who don't share his opinions, presumably to try to get them removed from the site.
He claims racism where there is none and post everything for effect.
I've stopped responding to him, and I would urge others to do so.
He is an enemy of free speech and a peddler of straw man nonsense.

That is all I'm saying on the matter because I don't want to be dragged to his level.

You’re a champion of free speech are you? You’re telling victims of racist abuse to shut up and get on with it rather than use their own right to free speech to say what has happened to them.

Would suggest that makes you the enemy of free speech.

The point is that there is no parity and there should be.

I cannot accept that people get in a stew about a mere word. I find it pathetic and I don't care about the history. The current generation has only had their own history, not someone else's.

That old argument cannot continue to prevail forever.
If we are going to be strict about words, then that has to apply universally and not just for protected groups.

On the other hand. Why would you want to insult someone at all?
It seems to me that most of this stuff can be covered under the heading of common decency to fellow human beings. The racial element is just for headlines and politics.

My point is evidenced clearly in this overly reductive, and frankly, ludicrous post.

Ah the old straw man. Wheeled out once again. The needle is stuck on this one. Can we send it back? Repair or replace, Sir? Neither. Cheers

What Rafiq is entitled to say is not in question. Please stop inventing arguments that no one is having.
What is in question is the validity of his complaints with regard to his seeming change of attitude over time.

I have to say that I have no idea why anyone would want to call someone a P**i in any circumstances, but this sort of langage does occur on building sites and where insults, including racial ones are accepted as OK among friend.
I have been known to call my best mate an insulting Scottish reference even though he is half Scottish and I have a fair few Scottish genes myself. He has called me far worse. It's called banter, and among friends that is fine.
I would like to know why everyone jumps like a lot of scared rabbits when the recipient of such language happens to be Asian?

Don't tell me it's because his dad had a hard time with racism or some other similar historical excuse.
We should treat people with respect regardless of colour, but we cannot keep pandering to those who wish to move the goalposts when it suits them.

It is stuck because certain poster continue to use straw man arguments.

It's what happens when they want to frame everything you say in a particular light.
Of course, if one takes the time to read posts properly, then they will not have a problem understanding them.

Well in a closed environment like school in that era, no one would protect you, not teachers or parents, because they came from a different era when name calling was not considered a big deal.

It had to be endured, and I suppose in the end it makes you stronger.
The problem now is that racial insults are now treated differently from others, despite the absurdity of that distinction, and the rule only applies to Whites. Apparently, you can call White people what you like.

I see no issue in why different types of insults are treated and responded to differently. It's quite simple as a concept that shouldn't really need to be explained. Not all insults are equal. Similarly, it isn't just racist insults that are elevated and all else are treated the same. Now as to whether racist insults are proportionally responded to or not – sure, that's a fair debate. But to say all insults should be treated equally, or to complain that racial insults get elevated at all is over simplistic nonsense.

Which brings us onto... how you frame everything through the same warped reductive hyperbole, regardless of thread topic or response. It's tiring, boring and unintellectual. The stupid thing is some of the kernels of your opinions have plenty of merit, but they get dragged into the whirlpool of repetition and forced links with the big angry mess that pollutes actual reasoned debate every single time. Create a thread for that and post into it in between reasoned opinion. Think of it as some sort of therapy. Like an intellectual rage w***. Then you might not get attacked so much. It's doing him a disservice, but you're basically a very poor mans Stirling.

On the contrary. You're the broken record relentlessly telling anyone non white to put up an shut up regardless of how they're treated. I'm more than happy for you to publicly present yourself as a perpetually racist bore. I'm assuming you do so here, because you've rightly been given short thrift by those in everyday life when you attempt to bore them with it. Great, do carry on.

Chrissake

The fact you're having to ask that question. There is a difference between nationalistic ribbing or even more acerbic insults within the same race or creed and between races. And that doesn't just apply to race, by the way. I mean, opinion like this exists? Don't make me get my pie and mash out again.

Death is lifes change agent. Thank f*** for that (for now anyway)

It always amuses me greatly when posters say things like 'That's all I have to say on this matter'

Haha. Well Stirling is great with words, so I don't take that as an insult.

The thing is that you make these statements, but where is your evidence that one insult is different to another? It is of course the perception of words that differs. Perception is a personal thing. I think we can agree on that.

Are we then to base our response as a society on how an individual feels about a particular word? I don't think that is reasonable.

Also, there is far more to this than people calling each other names. This is about a much wider issue of controlling language and power creep. It is about media influence and the role of elites in manipulating our society for their own ends. It would be completely naive to think this was just about what one man said to another at a cricket club.
