Hodgson said in his pre-match comments on Sky on Sunday that he was 'lucky to have players of the quality of Sorloth and Ayew on the bench'. He didn't then burst into hysterical laughter so, possibly, he meant it. I do rather doubt it though. He's more or less duty bound to 'big them up' in public no matter how much the evidence might be to the contrary.

I'm in agreement with some others in here. I don't think he's been given a fair chance yet. Strikers need not only starts but consecutive starts and he hasn't had this at all. He needs a run in the team like that before he can be properly judged. I'd prefer him in the side to Ayew and much as we're wishing Benteke was back let's not forget how truly woeful he had been. I would take Bakary Sako above the lot of them. Had goals in him when given a run in the team, had ability and his work rate was outstanding

In my mind you have to earn your chance and can’t rely on being ‘given’ anything.

Did notice that Roy got agitated when asked by the Sky interviewer post Everton if we had any chance of getting anything from the next four games. Not what he said but his tone.

Like Sorloth said himself, he had to change his mind in the last minute against Spurs, because the defender would have blocked the chance if he had tried to blast it in the far corner. The problem wasn't his decision, he is a little too slow, physically speaking. Zaha, f.x., would have been way ahead of the defender in that situation. Sorloth needs to start next game. Makes no sense to have him on the bench, while letting people like Ayew play. He should really consider leaving Palace... Edited by lehhhh (14 Nov 2018 6.31pm)

I just can’t see Sorloth being a success at Palace.

Whilst he finally chipped in with a welcome couple of goals in the last year of his contract work rate isn’t really a phrase that springs to mind.

I would give him until Xmas - Man U, Burnley, Brighton, West Ham, Leicester - if he doesn't show anything then in Jan ship him off out on loan and get someone else in who can.

Sorloths main problem is our expectations given his fee. 550,000 euros from Rosenborg to Groningen, 450,000 to Midjylland. 19 games and 10 goals later, 9m pounds to Palace. Those sneaky Danes moved the decimal place on us!

I always remember Alan Smith, when he was on the old Locker Room programme with Andy Gray, saying that any new player in a team needs 11 games to fully bed in and be able to play instinctively with the rest. He wasn't too far wrong from what I've seen since he said it!
