Putney to Glasgae in one night would have been impressive! I turned off the M40 on the way home from work and at the end of the slip-road a car with three 'lads' in it hit me from behind and shunted me into the car in front that was waiting to turn left on to the main road. The car behind then reversed away from me and sped past me and the car in front, turned right on to the main road and off. I got the number plate. My instinct was to chase after them, but then what about the car in front of me? what would I actually have done if I'd caught them etc etc? Later that evening when I eventually got home, I phoned the police to report what had happened. They told me that because it happened on the motorway (i.e. the slip road) I should have called the police at the time, and therefore I could be prosecuted for not having done so. Accordingly I now had to report to my nearest police station (which isn't very near at all) WITHIN 24 HOURS and produce my driving licence. I asked whether the police would be looking for the hit and run vehicle in the meantime, and was told that I could "make an official report" at the police station, and the matter could be taken forward from there. I questioned why I had to "produce" within 24 hours, but apparently the other two drivers involved in the incident weren't required to do so. Unfortunately the call handler didn't have enough intelligence to understand what my point was. Next morning - a Saturday with Mrs YT at work - I bundled my two small children in to the car (both still in nappies and double pushchair...difficult to park on a Saturday in a 'market town' etc etc) and managed to find the nick. To cut a long story a bit shorter, I explained everything, and the fat git behind the desk said "So what do you expect me to do about it?". I said "How about investigating the hit and run car - the one I've given you the registration number of?". "How about looking at the motorway cameras (there's one right by where it happened) to see if there's any evidence?". He basically said that the chances of finding the errant car were remote, and even if traced, if I was unable to identify the driver (which I wasn't) then there was nothing they could do anyway ie even if the car was registered the owner would probably deny that they had been driving it". I went potty! How come when my car was caught driving at 44 (yes 44) on a 40mph dual carriageway, I was threatened with the full force of the law if I didn't reveal who the driver was?....How come I've been forced to give up half of my Saturday to come and report this, and produce my licence when there's apparently no such obligation on the person who caused the accident? What about that bullsh*t about me making an official report for the police to then follow up? The answer was 1) I don't know why you are so worked up about it - you've got insurance, haven't you? and 2) if you don't leave now, i will arrest you for obstruction. Still angry about it now. For the record, 'm not inherently 'anti-police'. Both my parents were Met Police officers.

I was going to just post the bold but then the next bit actually applies to me, although the journey started off after an all dayer, before and after a home match. Got a bit concerned reading you 'picked me up' at first but I woke up in the morning, on the bus, in the depot, engine running for the morning route about to go wherever. I had a mammoth long sleep that night and Sunday morning journey home. All possessions still on me. Wouldn't be today. RIP John Charles de Menezes though. Poor fella and family.

We're going back to the bad old days of police incompetence being blamed on football fans. Remember what the police said after Hillsborough? The fans urinated on the dead etc etc That was all rubbish. But they briefed the papers (namely The Sun) and they gleefully ran it because it makes a good story and it's much easier to blame the fans than question the police's conduct. Local newspapers are are less editorially independent than they were in the 'bad old days' and they were pathetic even then. so I imagine the reporting in The Argus will have been pretty spineless and totally towing the police line I wasn't there, but does anyone think there really were knuckle dusters being smuggled into the ground?

Aside from my clear agenda which is to slag off Brighton as much as I can there is a safety issue here that both Sussex Police and BHAFc have dropped the ball on. It's my understanding that following the Taylor report turnstile have a number of criteria they have to meet in order to comply with the legal requirements. These include having floor to ceiling gates which are almost impossible for people to force their way through. Just so people can't accuse me of double standards I do believe that individuals should be held accountable for their actions, but at a modern purpose built stadium you should be prepared for a bit of public disobedience and Brighton have clearly been caught with their pants down and are trying to deflect attention.

BAHA designed their stadium to be a pleasant experience for supporters both home and away, including treating visiting supporters as responsible adults. It's worked for over 200 games until we turned up on Tuesday night. If we wish to be treated like animals by other clubs then we've probably succeeded. A very small minority of our 'support' have ruined it for the majority and, thanks to apologists like yourself and a chairman who is in awe of them, they will most likely continue to do so. The supposedly heavy-handed police tactics are a result of such activities as the pub attack at Spurs which get everyone tarred with the same brush. There is no distinction between the so-called 'legitimate' HF and the supposed wannabes that hang round with them. They're all part of the same problem and, if our club don't sort it out, I fear that the PL/FA will.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

Idiots blaming everyone from BHA to the design of the stadium, when it's been clear for ages that there is a nasty element developing in the HF that is determined to make trouble.

It's 2017 ffs so is it beyond the intelligence of the Sussex Police to use their powers to order Brighton to delay the kick-off by 30 mins while they sort out the supporters they kettled by checking the tickets and profiles of the genuine peaceful supporters and allowing them into the ground and then dealing with the hooligans. If they had done that then the hooligans would have been isolated, named and possibly charged. At least then Palace could have banned them from Selhurst Park and also ensure they never get tickets for away games. Or is that too simple.
