Individual BBC staff can make bad judgements, just as we all can. They are human too. Doesn't mean the BBC as a whole is failing does it? After the murder of Jo Cox BBC News (and quite rightly) covered the aftermath of the who and why. There were extensive reports on the rise of the far right and hatred in the UK fuelled by Brexit. Some of which was true some of which is open to interpretation. There were lots of examples of people espousing hatred e.g. anti-Semitism in the Labour, Tommy Robinson (depends on your point of view) and then all the nasty stuff on social media ad nauseam. So whilst one arm of the BBC is highlighting how intolerant we are in this country and isn't it terrible the BBC comedy department and Jo Brand have just added fuel to the fire. If I was the DG of the BBC that disconnect between the two departments is what I would be picking up on.

Good point. There’s an element of laziness to this as well. Panel shows where entertainers can earn their money by saying “Brexiteers. What a bunch of morons” or just “Trump” have reached a new low. No one needs to tell a joke or be vaguely amusing and they get a chance for some top grade virtue signalling.

Yup shades of Ben (so not funny) Elton doing his stand up in the eighties which largely consisted of "Thatcher doncha hate her" and "aren't the Tories awful" Most comedians will tell you they are anti establishment when they mean left wing. If your target audience is students and or a BBC studio audience then you are actually playing to the mainstream (in that room). Want to be brave try a routine where you ridicule Labour, Green party and vegans etc. if you can get them rolling in the aisles you deserve some respect.

What you find funny all depends on your own biases and prejudices. I have laughed at those who find the extremes of politics ridiculous on both sides of the aisle. I find hard line Brexiteers fair game for the extraction of urine, but equally so those who support Corbyn, and especially those who think organic food is better for you than anything else. (my pet area of nonsense). I have heard comedians perfectly able to get an audience in hysterics on both, because both have such obvious frailties.

You have Wisbech's view of the BBC on bias and then you have people who have worked in the BBC for decades and their views on the BBC. Of the now several books on the problems with the BBC on bias I recommend the 'The Noble Liar: How and Why the BBC Distorts the News to Promote a Liberal Agenda' by Robin Aitken, a man who worked for the BBC for 25 years as a reporter and executive, Unlike the nonsense Wisbech's waffles I doubt you will find many books written complaining about the BBC's imagined right wing bias.
