Anyone SERIOUS about doing a deal would not insert a clause that depended on CL football at Palace. There isn't a football club in the country that would agree to part of a payment depending on such a condition in relation to us.

If it wasn't out-and-out stupidity the only other possible explanation is that it was done knowing that it would scupper the deal, leaving the owners with a ready-made excuse, on I September, that they tried hard, but failed, thus keeping the cash in their pockets and placating the support.

Personally I prefer to believe it was a ridiculous bit of willy waving by Parish, rather than a Machiavellian plot to excuse a poor window.

Transfer deals contain multiple clauses, doesn't mean you think it will definitely happen. It's just a potential added bonus. It's not like it was £23m plus £5m if we get Champs Lge, it would have been X if he scores 10 goals, X if we get to/ win a cup final, X if we get into Europe, and X if we get into Champs Lge.
