“Wing” of what? “White dissident right” is a thoroughly unpleasant expression which brings back echoes of the past. A few years ago those who now use such words to describe themselves might have been members of the National Front, BNP or more recently Britain First. Of course none were identical, they kept falling out over just how nasty they wanted to be, but there is a common thread that links. 90 years ago Oswald Mosley would have liked the term. Sounds so much more acceptable than fascist. As our security services have said that the greatest threat to our democracy comes from the far right I think having the police monitoring them and publicly denouncing them is to be welcomed, not criticised. I'd say you trying to claim that you are a 'one nation conservative', while supporting what seems to be the entirety of the 'progressives' social beliefs is far more insidious. I'm not currently a member of any political group and haven't been since leaving Ukip so what you think of 'insert A' group matters little to me. If you're going to try and attach the word 'fascist' to the likes of me....and we all know that's what you are trying to do then I'll happy call you a communist and quite frankly some of the ideas you support would have happily fitted right in, especially your authoritarian ones. I'm not really into Mosley, I'm more a Powell guy. Powell was a war hero (fighting the very people you seem eager to attach to those who believe in his ideas) and a brilliant academic. I see him as a visionary and the only politician who stood up against the disastrous choices our elites made. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Nov 2022 12.04am)

In the light of this paragraph from the 'social liberal' WE let's remind ourselves of his supported pick Biden, who also shares his attitude towards his opposition. [Tweet Link]

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Nov 2022 12.04am) Whataboutism, jangling nerves and a hat being worn, all in one post! Quite an achievement. One nation Conservatives, the type I identify with, do support progressive social ideas. They don't support daft ideas, whether of the right or left. They are pragmatists. They want to make progress and not turn the clock back, whilst recognising that politics is the art of the possible.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

These are the known companies that have pulled their ads on Twitter. If someone believes that Musk's version of free speech is better than the protected censored speech against anyone other than 'progressives' and neo liberals themselves, then these companies are against you. General Mills Ford would be turning in his grave to see his company today. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Nov 2022 1.32pm)

I think his approach is broadly sensible, and as long as it's moderated sensibly and Musk doesn't do something stupid resulting in losing millions of users then they'll be back on the platform soon enough Couldn't have completed his takeover at a worse time with the mid-terms imminent. Misinformation and dross is going to be rampant
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |

Misinformation and dross is going to be rampant I think Musk has always been quite open as to his attitude regarding free speech. He's a free speech absolutist, though obviously he would keep to the law....but probably as loosely as possible given that he's not a fan. I would regard the number of these companies as rather suspect and while I think Musk is right to view it as the work of activists it's also true that a far number of those activists will actually be working within those companies themselves nowadays. As for the mid-terms, did you catch Trump calling Ron DeSantis, Ron DeSanctimonious?.....I must admit, childish or not, I do enjoy the trolling in politics.
