The club isn't run by idiots and I don't for a second believe, out of rank stupidity, they would start inserting pie-in-the-sky clauses into contracts without thinking it through first.

I haven't read the actual Champions League clause, only what's been 'leaked' by a media outlet, but I suspect, in context, the clause isn't as sensational or stupid as it's been portrayed.

Is there another was of portraying it then?

Anyone SERIOUS about doing a deal would not insert a clause that depended on CL football at Palace. There isn't a football club in the country that would agree to part of a payment depending on such a condition in relation to us.

If it wasn't out-and-out stupidity the only other possible explanation is that it was done knowing that it would scupper the deal, leaving the owners with a ready-made excuse, on I September, that they tried hard, but failed, thus keeping the cash in their pockets and placating the support.

Personally I prefer to believe it was a ridiculous bit of willy waving by Parish, rather than a Machiavellian plot to excuse a poor window.

Probably yes there may be several ways of portraying it. I'd prefer to see the entire contents of the contract before casting judgement and also to look at similar contracts for other players (and have knowledge of how the negotiations progressed. A more realistic end-point would probably be a Europa league-linked bonus.

I'd guess that this kind of negotiation tactic is not as uncommon as some on here would like to think. That it was leaked is probably also part of the negotiation. So fans like you put pressure on the management.

I have no contact with the owners or management of the club and am in no position to personally put them under any sort of pressure. I am however, as you are, entitled to my opinion, which I have given you without giving a derogatory view on your motivations or intentions; it would have been polite if you'd extended the same curtesy to me.

I`m pretty sure that most contracts have these sort of clauses ,I bet even craig Harrison had a clause that boro got a certain amount if he played for England !! but this is so high profile and its been leaked makes me suspicious that its more than likely been leaked by Liverpool. they have done that to make palace pay up and do the deal .
