With Hodgson saying that he won't be here for another season, why wait until then to replace him? He's going anyway, and the irony is what took him previously 3/4 seasons to accomplish (the most abysmal negative football ever) he's now managed in half a season, skills.

I think Forest's home crowd carried them a bit last season and their away record suggests Cooper isn't great at managing a team to win a game of football when they're up against it which is a red flag IMO. That said I don't think we should delude ourselves about the level of coach we should be looking at. Some of our managerial recruitment attempts and departures have looked pretty ham fisted and the ownership structure still looks very messy. I'd think that SP will like Cooper's knowledge of youth football. MY new campaign, when Roy chooses to go,ABC Anyone But Cooper.

Cooper (less chance of it all going tits up & ended up being relegated) - Paddy may become a good manager but not without earning his stripes - Avoiding relegation may become super important if ESL gathers pace ( in any way shape or form) & means that there are structural changes to the PL Originally posted by Croydon-Trucker

He'd need an unbelievably experienced assistant if it were to happen. Also, I don't see how Paddy releases any of the shackles people seem to want - he's only ever played in sides that have been very practical. Shame you can't send your backroom staff out on loan...

I suspect we may as well as stick with Roy. The board didn't do enough in the summer window and they seem to think a couple of loans may be enough in the winter window. Far too many players who are well past their best or championship standard at best in the squad. Roy is probably the best option to keep us up with what we have. Sack Roy and I expect we'll be getting through another manager and appointing a third this season as we head for the abyss. We have papered over the cracks and kicked the can down the road too many times. Edited by fish mitten (22 Dec 2023 10.41am)

I think if we appoint Paddy, its the recipe for an unmitigated disaster. The only reason it would happen is because SP and the board believe this squad is good enough. The truth is it isn't. If we are sticking with the same players we may as well stick with Roy and he's as good as you'll get in this situation. Originally posted by Croydon-Trucker

Going from Hodgson to McCarthy seems like a fools errand - one that on the surface is neither progressive or reserved. Part of me thinks that RH knows best, and that his way is the best way for this squad. But I cannot help think/hope that a fresh pair of modern thinking, tactically adept eyes would know how to invigorate and inject some of our promising youth into the setup more effectively than RH has done. I do not think Prem experience is a must, and I don't look at our previous attempts at a progressive managers as reasons not to continue that effort. In fact I'd rather one with no PL experience over one with PL experience, but an imcompatible approach. I think that now Cooper is available, on the surface it looks like he'd be a good appointment. Roy is feeling disgruntled and unloved, and I wouldn't want to push him out in a way that lacks the Respect he deserves.
