This is what I struggle with so much about the 'Conservative Party'. They implement policies that their own voter base loathe. This entire gay marriage into trans bulls*** has come about under a Tory led government. Senior tories behind the scenes want an election. They don't want to be in power anymore. They want Starmer, and by default Labour, to take the blame for pushing us back into the EU and the BS around net zero. Might even be happy to stay out of power for 10 years. Fashion politics and prudent fiscal management are entirely different. I have absolutely no interest in the former but have to eat and pay my mortgage. I work to pay for the latter and currently see the value of my wages eroded whilst costs increase substantially. Of course, there are international pressures but we can't follow a domestic fiscal regime that pays no attention to these issues.

The only way they save themselves now is by kicking Truss out and bringing Rishi in. Can't see any other way

Her only quality is her ability to back the right horse. Not an ideal quality for one that is supposed to lead. Speaks to the competence of Tory members.

After seeing what happened to Kwasi, I will not be attending any more high-powered international conferences. The DWP will only cancel my universal credit on my return.

'You can't buck the markets' - Thatcher. Not sure that should be the only thing but Truss has delivered the UK up to them. The markets have taken back control: so much for Truss’s Brexit delusion of sovereignty.

Seems a lot of media driven noise about Truss being forced out next week. There surely cannot be another leadership contrast IMO so there will have to be a change to the rules so a new leader can be quickly installed. It's been a very roller coaster period since 2019, huge majority, covid and war leading to cost of living crisis, inevitable end of very low interest rates globally. Seems to me that the only question at the next GE will be can Labour achieve an overall majority or will they need to enter into a coalition. Let's see if the left of Labour come out from the shadows when they are confident of forming a Govt. At least Starmer is relatively centrist but no idea of his policies on many issues as so far it's been mostly " not what the Tories have done ". The ousting of Boris for spurious reasons will IMO prove to be a grave mistake for the Conservative party.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Maybe the elected Tory MPs should have been allowed to pick their own leader not 160,000 party members. It could have been a very different outcome. She's probably not wanted by the majority of her MPs but she will cling on to her position for dear life until she's ousted. I hope it's sooner rather than later because she's tarnishing the role and reputation of a British PM in the eyes of the world.

The Tories rely on 160,000 party members most of whom are elderly buffoons whilst Labour rely on the Trade Unions and their block votes. If Labour had a more democratic approach they would have appointed the right Miliband as leader and would probably have then won the next General Election and remained in power ever since. What needs to happen now is for the 1922 committee to change the rules limiting the election of the leader to Conservative MPs so that Truss can be replaced painlessly and quickly before she is allowed to inflict more damage on the country
