And perhaps a warning signal. If those of us on the Right, who are defined as being nationalist, are deemed to be siding with a foreign power then what does that tell you about the state of the country we are meant to be the 'flag-shaggers' for?

I don't admire Putin because he is Russian. I admire him because he actually leads. Puts his own people and their interests at the top of his agenda. Does what he thinks is best for those who elected him to lead them.

Does anybody think that Johnson does anything for anybody other than Johnson? Or Starmer? Or Biden? Or Macron? Or anybody else in any kind of senior leadership role in the West?

Are you delusional?
He couldn't give a fig about the population of Russia; he couldn't care if they starve on the streets.
I am not for one minute suggesting that relationships couldn't have been handled better over recent decades but this man is a deranged thug who has pretty much threatened to nuke anyone who defies him.
Regardless of anything else there is no excuse for this invasion and to me anyone who even thinks it might be a good idea should apply for Russian citizenship.

I am pleased I visited St Petersburg when I did as it will be unlikely to happen now or for a good time to come.

I liked it but preferred Moscow. St Petersburg is very European reminded me of Vienna, Moscow is very Russian or how i imagined Russia to be.

Great country, great people, lousy politicians.

What about China and their role in all of this?
They have a huge set of trade deals with Russia but will they do anything - I doubt it - they probably like the idea of a war with the West so that they can come in and pick up the pieces.
Oh to have a stronger US leader than Old Joe - three great superpowers and in not too long a time I fear there will only be two.

Very conscious of European cultural mores throughout history. Peter The Great.as part of Europeanising Russia, encouraged 'Francoficiation', Voltaire was a favourite at court and French was widely spoken by the aristocracy.

I might be wrong however to my mind Putin (Perhaps I should refer to him as 'Putrid') does not give two hoots about sanctions or his people and they will not deter him from further action. He does not care if Russia becomes a pariah state.

His troops are well into Ukraine taking military action and not going to withdraw because of any sanctions from the west.Ukraine cannot conquer the Russian military might.

Other states are on his 'Wishlist'and unless this maniac is stopped in his tracks now there will only be further invasions with sanctions not having the desired effect.
Sadly it is time for NATO to get involved and meet force with force and all that entails.

Doesn't that leave Putin fighting the same long term resistence war the allies did in Iraqi and Afghanistan? He's have to build a wall like the Jews...Probably take a long time given a country like Ukraine.

History doesn't repeat...it rhymes.

And the president of Ukraine is Jewish.

I didn't really know what to expect but we stayed there for just short of a week and I thought it was a wonderful city.
Rich in history and at times staggering architecture.
Friendly people, reasonably priced and just so much to see.
You can scratch the surface or look deep back into an incredible history as well as seeing what the Germans did to to the city in WW2 - dreadful times.
Well worth a visit but probably not until someone deals with Putin who is as we speak unleashing bombs over the whole of the Ukraine.

It probably is Willo and that is where it becomes so scary because I have no doubt that Putin is happy to take things a lot further.

It is a very serious situation.Of course Ukraine is not a NATO country but unless Putin is stopped by force now it is only a matter of time that other states, the Baltics for example, are under attack from this maniac.
Sanctions do not deter him.
We have to cut off the head of the snake.
