I think this thread is coming to an end as I’m convinced he’s staying - even if there were to be 8 consecutive defeats.

We really just need to hope Brentford miss out then just swap squads and grounds .. how did Brentford get a new Stadium built in Kew for 71 million.

Now checking I see it has a capacity of just 17,500. Perhaps that was the limit of their budget but it does indicate a lack of ambition to me.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

From my humble perspective, moving from an old stadium with a capacity of around 12,700 to a brand new purpose built stadium with an increased capacity does not indicate any dearth of ambition.

When a manger only has a year left, no responsible chairman would open the cheque book for them, particulary with Roy's history in the transfer market. You could argue that no responsible chairman would have offered the manager a 12 month deal given that the squad overhaul needed is going to take longer than that.

Completely agree - with such an overhaul of the playing squad needed, it doesn’t make sense to force yourself into a managerial change midway through it.

A few articles floating around news now at the moment. In short we appear to have a manager on a one year contract who wants to bring more experienced players into the team despite it being the oldest in the league, a chairman who wants to bring youth into the team and a star player who has told his manager he wants to leave on numerous occasions and the manager appears quite happy to chat about it. You just know this recipe ain’t going to end well.

The 12 month business is probably about Roy's age and whether he will feel up to it 12 months hence. I suspect SP will be happy to keep extending for 12 months whilst ever Roy feels he can continue to do the job. In other words, if it looks like we will survive next season and Roy still feels he can do the job, expect another 12 month extension agreed next Spring.

Well let’s face it 17,500 is about what we will achieve in the Championship. Serious ? Brentford a lack of ambition, a brand new stadium, excellent scouting set up, have made progression despite selling the best players every year for handsome profits. After 9 years of PL money we had to sell AWB to cover our losses, we have a picture of a stand that won’t get built a bang average ageing squad with one sellable player and two Sakho and Tekkers that have leached us the best part of 80 million (or the cost of a new Stadium in Kew).
