It was good to view the program on Carl Beech on Monday, the paedo and fantasist who claimed he had been raped amongst other things by an establishment ring including Harvey Proctor, Leon Brittain etc. Fine investigative reporting from the BBC, what an eye-opener and exposing a quite appalling performance from the Met. How such an organisation could be so taken in defies belief. No fear or favours there from the beeb, Still the best. I couldn't watch it but will soon.

Well that's one view of the program others certainly feel that the BBC downplayed their role in the whole sorry saga.

You forget that it was a Conservative government under Tony Hall that announced the £125 million savings for the Beeb, and restructuring that decimated local broadcasting in favour of the big shows. Even despite that, what other channel would do - and this is just from a glance at iplayer - a weekly series explaining the latest developments in astronomy which has run for 7 decades, full uniterrupted coverage of the world snooker championships, 'The art of Japanese life', a drama about Barbara Windsor and a programme about travelling across Scotland by railway? I don't watch ITV so I don't care and guess what I don't have to pay for the privilege. Once the BBC licence has been abolished as far as I am concerned the BBC can be as pro left, pro remain, pro BLM and pro LBTGQ as it likes, no skin off my nose.

Of course you don't watch ITV you watch the BBC, don't you? I know you don't watch ITV Bg, you know what you are so hung up on this petty issue, cost £150, but why. I think you watch the beeb until the little white dot in the middle disappears. If you didn't watch and listen to it constantly, you would hardly be in such a stew about it !!

Possibly paying £157.50 for the privilege of not watching their output has some stewing capacity.

The simple answer to this BBC endless ennui, is to not have a licence at all but free, and for the beeb to be paid put of general taxation, where the sum would simply disappear. It really is a storm in a tea-cup.

I think the only time I watch the BBC is MOTD and if I had to I would pay for that program. My opposition to the licence fee is a perfectly valid position shared by a growing number of people. At the moment the percentage of non payers is going up 1% pa at last count is was 7% at some point like the poll tax you hit the tipping point when people who are not as concerned as you and me think hang on why should I pay if my neighbours don't. By the way the licence fee is a regressive tax that hurts the poor. I made the point about ITV it also applies to the other mainstream channels I find they are all pretty awful it's not just the BBC however I don't have to pay not to watch them. Yes it could come out of general taxation but much simpler to free the BBC from it public service obligations and allow it to become whatever it wants to.

We'll see what happens So also said Lord Grade (former BBC Chairman) this morning, adding that the BBC's journalists were out of touch and its decision on the Proms was idiotic. I have little doubt that the songs will be reinstated next year, but I have considerable doubt at to whether they would have been reinstated in the absence of the recent uproar.
