Not arguing he is still the best keeper at the club but he does have exactly what Pardew needs right now which is 10 years of consistency and the ability to give all the supporters and atmosphere a massive lift like very few players can. Jules is not match fit, would be crazy to take that risk

I have always been nervous watching MANDANDA not Mondonda. Who decided that saying. anyway he hasn't performed at all, and I expected him to excel, he's even worse than McCarthy was. Cant clear his line, and dithers beyond belief when he has the ball as to what hes going to do with it. Please Hennessy get your act together as well and keep MAN.... out of the first team selection

You've spanned my era with those keepers. Lets hope we keep trying and eventually get another gem like those you have mentioned.

He is starting tonight for Olympique de Marseille in the Europa League final against Atletico Madrid in Lyon. The atmosphere in the stadium is fantastic. Contrary to his debut with us, a midweek League Cup tie against Blackpool at a quarter-full Selhurst Park. I still remember the beaming look on the face of our equally-rotund goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman as he congratulated an obviously unimpressed Steve on his clean sheet. Hope he lets in a hatful.

Yep, unusual goalkeeping there from an obviously slimmer-looking Stevie. Throwing himself to one side to let one of the deadliest finishers in Europe roll the ball into an empty net. Keep up the good work! This is what the great Alan Pardew had to say about signing him. Who needs Pep Guardiola with this insight? : “That was why I wanted to bring him – I felt I wanted my team to build the play a little bit more and have control of the game, so you need a goalie who can deal with the ball. Our goalies are decent but that happens to be his real strength and, of course, he has fantastic experience from his time at Marseille. “He’s also a real character. When you see him in and around the place, you can’t help but feel confident with him. He’s such a powerful personality and he’s so calm – sometimes I just shake him to see if he’s alive! He’s going to be a really big favourite here.”
