Loyalty in football today comes largely from Fans and Fans alone. In AJ's case if we had stayed up and offers had come in SJ and AJ would have both knocked them back. AJ keeps his England interests open and is playing in the top flight of English football. However the reality is much different. If you were AJ would you settle for Walsall in the CC and playing in the CCC with little no chance of playing for YOUR country, or playing in the top flight for a club in the Champions league and a place in the England squad?? Only a DAMN fool would choose the former. Most of us knew that he'd go and talk of 'loyality' and 'honouring contracts' are nothing more than soundbytes. Footballers are commodities bought and sold for the best price possible. AJ has 4 years on his contract and so is a very valuable commodity to Palace. He's a great player and we've had many great players come and GO. Brilliant if we keep him, get £10mil if we can't. Simple as.
MKEM Number #2 Do u know what Nemesis means? A rightous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. In this case personified by an 'orrible Kant, ME! |

Never a truer word said...And also proves just how badly Wayne Routledge was treated, Not many footballers today honour there contract. Well done Wayne.

Well Done Wayne.....????? refusing to sign a contract....to be a bench warmer at spurs? When there was the slightest interest from another club he lost all intrest in playing for Palace, the club who brought him through the ranks and gave him the oppurtunity....Its not the issue of the player leaving its when he refuses to put in 100% because he wants to move and then sticks 2 fingers up at the club on the way out(Steve Bruce, Julian Grey)

I think Routledge was badly advised by his b****** of an agent. It made sense for Wayne to honour his contract at Palace rather than selling us short in January with a move to Spurs back then. He wouldn't have been totally guaranteed first team opportunities in comparison to the regular Premiership football he had under Dowie. This compared to now, where to be fair - it seems that he has a good chance of getting first team football in a Spurs shirt.

Knew he wanted to move on, didn't mislead anyone and has stayed until his contract expired. We get a fee for a 'lazy git who doesn't give a toss about Palace' because he wants to make the next step in his career and everyone is happy. Basically Wayne can't win with Palace fans. Had he signed a contract and then f***ed off after we'd been relegated would everyone had been happier then?
