If I'm right pikey, what you're saying is gypsy/traveller/romany = good, pikey = bad. In other words, a pikey is a bad gypsy/traveller/romany. Fair enough. But some people (and I'm not saying you're one of them) would apply the same logic to black or asian people . Ie, "bad" blacks/asians are n**gers/p*kis and good ones are just black or asian.

For me, a good rule of thumb is that if a group of people don't find a certain word offensive when applied by someone not from their community, then that word is ok. If they find it offensive from others, then it's not ok. I find it hard to believe many gypsies wouldn't find the term "pikey" offensive. Although when I first saw your username, I assumed you were a gypsy who was "reclaiming" a word which had been used as an insult, in the same way some blacks call each other "n**ger" and gays now refer to themselves as "queer".

Looking forward to meeting Bexter, and I think your sensible posts (although I don't agree with them all) are very....well...sensible!

I agree with lefty ole Seth. I saw some nice Pikeys getting ready to leave their site today, there they all were walking about with bin bags, gathering any rubbish they found, some of the lady Pikeys were trimming the hedges and the grass, I even saw one of the blokes knock at the door of the nearest house and apologise for any inconvenience! The place actually looked nicer than it did before they arrived! The local crime rate actually fell for the first time in years!

YEAH f***ING RIGHT! GET REAL PAL!

The day I meet a decent Pikey is the day I might change my opinion about them.

Seth,
Is it right that these people should sponge off of others?
Most of the "travellers" that I have seen and been affected by do not travel, they just exist paying no taxes, no national insurance, steal, threaten, con, etc etc.
You might change your view if they come and live in your back yard and " have the right to live on the fringe of society".
Calling them Pikeys is one way that people can get back at them; normal channels of complaint, ie the Police gets you nowhere mate.
Most blacks and asians I know are happy to pay their dues and I for one have no problem with them being here on that basis.

Me to!

I can just see the headline...
PIKEY DOES GOOD DEED SHOCKER!
Locals say Mr Pikey is such a nice helpful kind of chap, you can't understand a damned word he says, but he'll do anything for you they say! When asked about his amazing community spirit he replied "Mblfck, mblarg yff***er!"

Most people who don't have a permanent address can't get a proper job, so have to make ends meet by doing whatever work they can. And lots of people from all communities steal, threaten, con etc. Some people call it "hustling". I think you'll find just as many thieves amongst "settled" communities as among travellers. When my car was done over, it was a w*nker up the road, not a gypsy.

I work in a school and have met lots of traveller kids, some of who were difficult, most were just like any other kid. Believe me, the worst people I have met live in houses or flats.

You wouldn't know if you met one - you would just assume they were a "normal" person.

But that's because the proportion of pikeys to everyone else is tiny. Therefore, you're more likely to have met a worse "non-pikey" than pikey!! Even then, I'd disagree with you!

Trust me, I would. I'd spot the six fingers on their hand straight away. As for the smell...

I knew I'd get the "PC" tag chucked at me! It's very easy isn't it - just shout "PC" and hope all reasonable arguments melt away. Yes, I come from the "left" of the political spectrum - if that still means anything. You can call me PC if you like - I can take it, it's meaningless anyway. I stand by my comments. And I notice none of those who were spewing racism here earlier have returned to defend their ill informed remarks.

seth stop trying to defend pikeys, they are one of the scumiest breed known to man kind

I remember them being in the car park up the road from me once and i was walking through an allyway and ending up steping in their s*** and then almost getting 'accidently' run over by a 7 year old on a motorcross bike. ive also got a mate that got the s*** kicked out of him for passing by one evening, they even stole the poor b******s shoes. And when they eventually left the place looked like a victim of an atomic bomb.

stop trying to defend them, they are scum and its a fact

Its very difficult and wrong to brand a whole race whether it be white, black, brown, or mexican, but in this case its f***ing easy

I couldn't believe it when some pikies who were camped at Avery Hill Park, in Eltham, nicked our ball after it went over the fence while our footie team was playing a pre-season friendly last summer. We managed to get it back in the end. Then while we were getting changed, the little w***ers started to steal the goal-nets and corner flags!

I'm not defending them, just saying you can't judge all gypsies by the behaviour of some.

And if it's wrong to tar all black/white/asian/whatever people with the same brush, then I believe it's just as wrong with gypsies.
