The ticket prices through Palace were $108 for the cheapest seats, $300 or so for the ones near the pitch. Ridiculous for growing the game.

Incidentally, I think Palace have really missed the boat regarding marketing in the U.S. Certainly the top 6 clubs have historically continued to enjoy name recognition, thanks to the built-in bias in coverage in Britain and around the world. HOWEVER, in the past 10 years, general fan interest in the Prem has grown steadily in the U.S. thanks to both the continued growth in youth participation and to the explosion in online betting.

Palace enjoy the built-in advantages of:
1) American-friendly color branding
2) the great Eagle logo
3) the underdog appeal (which, despite Yank cockiness and bravado, is a huge part of American sports-fan character)
4) strong resonance with all things related to Ted Lasso, and
5) a location convenient for fans visiting the U.K. or, more importantly, those who've accumulated massive frequent-flyer miles. I have friends (Liverpool fans, sadly) who see 2-3 matches per season at Anfield simply because their business travel accumulates so much free mileage. They're not millionaires, just savvy travelers who fly cross-country regularly on business. That's 6000k real miles per trip, plus plenty of bonus miles.

I'm frankly surprised that Steve Parish & Co. haven't been aggressive at promotion in the U.S. A million pounds in adverts – or clever social-media campaigns – could yield merch sales that would turn a healthy profit and even grow Palace support worldwide. Missing out on the Ted Lasso phenomenon was unfortunate. Ah, well. I'm content with my club being a beloved underdog, bordering on a much-loved secret, though I do hope we'll become a permanent top-half-of-the-table club, always in the mix for Europe competition.

Again, great post Charlie and thank you, I very much welcome and enjoy the insight! You forgot to mention our beloved Chris Richards as a point too though

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

As a side note, can anyone advise the status of Franca? I know he underwent surgery end of last season but very little said since.

Also how bad was the Doucoure injury last week?

No reports at all about Franca except he messaged Mateta after he scored for France.
OG has said Doucoure's injury didn't seem serious and was a slight setback. Maybe not unusual after so long out.

I suppose Palace v Wolves just hasn’t got the same appeal as Arsenal v Liverpool to the American people, I can’t make them out

I live in Maryland. About a 35 minute drive from Annapolis. It is less than half-hour from BWI. BA has one daily flight to and from Heathrow. Easy to fly from most of the US because BWI is a southwest hub.

I think the main problem WAS Marketing. Other than Palace email and social media, the only place I heard about the match was a few emails from the Baltimore Orioles (Baseball Club). The prices were crazy.

Barcelona and AC Milan are playing in Baltimore next week secondary market tickets start at $70 (plus additional fees which are outrages)

That’s being greedy.
Surely better to have better pricing with more people in to view the game live.

Thank you for the kind words. For the record, though, I now live near Boston. It was a 425-mile drive from home to the game, slightly more than the distance from London to Edinburgh. Alas, from our home to Tampa is over 1300 miles, far too distant to consider. (Though in my youth I actually circled the U.S. on foot – 10,000 miles. [Link] )
