What bothers me with this is that you see child sex offenders get lesser sentences. In fact, you see plenty of violent crime with lower sentences - or no custodial sentence at all. Ah but you see, these guys caused disruption, which is clearly a lot more serious.

I don't agree with what these people do but I don't think they're the type of people that deserve long prison sentences. Short sentences would probably scare them enough along with probationary conditions about social media and protests. I wonder if this is Labour trying to look like they're the party of Law and Order. Anyway, as someone else posted, I doubt they'll serve much of their sentences. A year maybe.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

One lady caught up on this was trying to get to a hospital where her father was (as it turned out) dying in A&E. She now suffers from PTSD as a consequence. I regard that as psychological violence and there will have been many other victims whose stories haven't been heard. This is not a problem for EDN and others on here. I expect they would drop the rhetoric if they were the one in the ambulance or a relative.

I do wonder what sort of charges we will see against yesterdays 'protestors' in Southport. If a Zoom call planning a peaceful protest can get you 5 years, you have to wonder what violent protest like we saw last night will result in.

You really don't have a problem with mass disruption causing for example people to miss medical appointments or ambulances and emergency services to be delayed, or, you are just so ideologically engaged it doesn't matter to you? Can't see a third option? If the latter then fair enough, bit don't whine if you are personally affected by such a disruption in the future. I will be using UK airports during August and really hope I encounter the JSO cultists glued to floor and obstructing my progress.

I don't think it's a desirable outcome, but I also don't think it warrants a 5-year prison sentence. How many emergency services do you think were delayed last night? Reports of 50+ police officers suffering injuries, major damage to public property... there's no logic that says blocking traffic is worse than that, but I've no doubt the sentences won't come close. That's my point.

That's my point. I'll wager you that the protesters will not serve long terms. I'd say a few months or year at most. I'd also wager that they'll be let out on the quiet and will sign non-disclosure agreements or be threatened with being kept in. This is to make Labour look tough - basically political in the wider sense.
