Yawn. Has no one noticed that nearly all pop music is totally awful now? To single out a few songs from years gone by seems rather moot nowadays. I expect our parents said the same thing about our generation's music. I try not to be a fuddy duddy so I choose not to listen to today's music or criticise it, it's not meant for me. I can honestly say I have never heard a Taylor Swift song and wouldn't recognise one if I heard it. However she is the biggest star in the world so obviously a lot of people like her. Edited by Badger11 (23 Jun 2024 9.35am) That's an easy position to take, but It's more than that. A lot of music now has no cultural connection to the majority. It can no longer present any originality and still remain within the parameters of what can be called popular music. It was inevitable that music in such a simple form, containing a few chords, would eventually run out of steam. Most musical progressions in the modern era have come from technological advancement. The electric guitar. The keyboard. Multitracking, synthesisers, sampling, autotune and so on. Pop is on its last legs. It no longer has the social, cultural impact.

That dastardly song from the seventies titled 'Toast'. I have no recall of the name of the artists. Furthermore "Two lagers and a packet of crisps" by Splogerbounds or some similar name. Time for me to turn off the wireless when these songs are played over the airwaves. Edited by Willo (23 Jun 2024 3.00pm)

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

So MOTR it hurts. The Specials I do love, of course. But the Clash tops my list of the overrated. Far too earnest, erzat agit but largely dull. So well done. You were half right.

There was a time when not knowing a number one act was almost inconceivable (Tuesday lunchtime for the chart update on the radio) but now they can have several without my even being aware of them.
