I'm confused by the lack of punters. Australia v Scotland was a hugely entertaining game with top talent on show, but hardly anyone turned up to watch. Compare and contrast with the massive turn outs at the Euros.

I guess with all the island hopping it would be a difficult tournament to follow for he traveling fan. And guessing ticket prices may be unaffordable for the locals.

But its so bad to see an empty stadium, especially when it could be full of locals, inspiring the next generation

I was only just reading about that and yes you’re right, ticket prices are too high and it’s not been marketed much out there either. A lot of locals don’t even know the tournament is going on.

Genuinely didn't think Aussies would throw the match as it would stop their momentum. I'm not sure the result can be carried through in any way - just don't see how that would work. But who knows with the format changes.

Just noticed this, which answers your question.

Cheers, yes that does answer it. Thank you.

Incidentally, you said you didn't see how carrying forward results from the first round would work, but it's actually quite straightforward. It's been done before in the cricket World Cup - certainly in 1999 and 2003. Hypothetically (because you've shown that it's not happening) the 8 qualifying teams start a new league but each team only plays 6 matches rather than 7. That's because they've 'already played' the match against the team they qualified alongside. So taking England and Australia as an example, England would start the 2nd round on played 1 lost 1 while Australia would start on played 1 won 1. Then they would each play the 6 teams that came through from the other 3 groups.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I watched the beginning of this morning's game but couldn't stay up. Was surprised to see a comfortable win for England - it was about 70-0 off of 6.5 overs when I stopped watching. There must have been some tight bowling somewhere along the line. It didn't look like it was coming from Topley but I haven't seen the scorecard. Sounds like a good run chase.

Wood got some real tap but England knocked it off without much trouble. Phil Salt was a bit unlucky not to get a hundred but he and Bairstow were very good. Rashid has bowled well too.

I preferred the batting order that England used this time but was unconvinced they needed that many bowlers. When you look at the line up again, they picked 6 bowlers - fair enough a couple who can bat. I wouldn't necessarily go with that line up again, despite it working this time. If the top two or three fail, there's not much left. Ali is not the tough it out kind of player. I've supported Worcestershire all my life and I'm well used to him. Curran is ok with the bat but is not even really an all rounder. More of a bowler than batsman. It was a risk that paid off this time.

Yes, 6 bowlers seems excessive.Maybe bring in Duckett for Topley.
Livingstone is a bit lost in the line up.

This is going to be a tough, tough match. England really need to watch how they bowl early on, if they field first. South Africa have been quietly knocking everyone off for a while now and were always one of the favourites for the tournament. If England win, they've got a real chance.

Worrying start for England. We need a wicket quickly.

Great work from Buttler - an excellent catch and a very good run out. This wicket doesn't look as easy as de Kock made it look.
