Buying earlier means probably pay less, prices towards the end of the window are likely to be higher as the selling club won't have time to sign a replacement plus by that time if we have sold one or two of our stars for a hefty profit other clubs may ask for more because they know we have money to burn.

Long term contracts really mean nothing but I expect another contract extension with additional salary (release clause adjustments if agreeable) to be offered for the commitment of the players to a further year and reevaluation where the club is in 12 months time!
