Sorloth reminds me a lot of JPM. There were some signs that he might be decent, but Roy never played either of them, except for 5 minutes here or there.

It's hard to tell unless the striker gets a long run of starts with decent service, and I feel like Sorloth and JPM never really got that until JPM recently.

Benteke had 66 goals in 132 Prem games before Roy…

LOL Im a fun kind of guy Im just being realistic though . Roy was employed for one thing only and I just see it as unfair when people dig him out for not being more entertaining as a manager . That was down to Parish for playing it safe which was probably the right call as we established ourselves in the PL under Roy

Im delighted as anyone that we are now on the path of enlightenment under Glasner

Imagine if the OG had taken over from Roy last summer, telling me the results would have been the same?

Imagine if Kevin Phillips had missed that penalty and getting back on topic imagine if Sorloth had been given a run in the side .

The end result would probably have been the same

But it was what it was , you can't turn the clock back .Its not Championship manager where you can rewind and buy an 18 year old Harry Kane

I think Sorloth is the exception to my rule "Palace don't let good players go".

Over the years there have been complaints when we have let youngsters or even first team players go (not to a big club for a fee) but rarely have any of them gone onto to better things.

I can only really think of Collymore and now Sorloth. And in Sorloth's case it has taken him about 3/4 years to come good.

Overall I think our managers and talent scouts tend to get it right.

It's plain and obvious now that Roy was well past his sell by date. His football was dire (had been for years). Ask Liverpool fans what they thought of it.
He came in and did ua a good job keeping us up after Vieira had lost it. Our error was inviting him back to do another term.
Glasner is a completely different personality. Very positive. Likes attacking football and definitely brings the best out of the players.
He has a fresh approach to the game, believes attacking football and scoring goals is what football is all about. He clearly understands about fitness, player rotation and game management.
We are very lucky to have got him. He has turned our club around in a very short time and at last, those of us who are season ticket holders are getting value for money. But most importantly we are all getting a team to be proud of which has improved the atmosphere at Selhurst massively.

Just to put this into some kind of context - Obviously anyone who scores 4 goals against Real Madrid is going to be the headline, however, Real Madrid have won the league quite comfortably (12 points ahead with one game remaining) RM were 4:1 up at half time fielding a much changed team, Villareal are this season a mid table side, where RM only real consistent competitors are a financially strained Barcelona (12 points below) so whilst its a good headline I dont honestly think its too much more than that.

Fair enough, however, doesn't Sorloth have a good record for the season?

Sorloth deserves credit for scoring so many goals whilst playing for a mid-table side in a league not known for high scoring matches. Last year he led Real Sociedad into the Champions League having replaced Isak and scoring winners against both Real and Barca. On loan from Palace he went to Trabzonspor and scored 33 goals with 11 assists consigning ex Liverpool and England striker Sturridge to the bench. With one match to go he is likely to be the Spanish Golden Boot winner. He deserves it after his poor treatment by Palace.

Indeed- Just googled it - 23 goals, league top scorer with one game to go - so he must have something to offer.

I guess the big questions would revolve around the overall competitiveness of each league in comparison to say the PL.

When he played for us I remember so many on here saying how useless he was. I didn't. His problem as a CP striker was the same as all our strikers in that era (who were all called 'useless'): he never got fed chances and lost confidence bit by bit after every match. People on here have said the same about Mateta and Eduaord. These are all good strikers who just need to be assisted. Now people on here are saying "OH gee! isn't it great to see Mateta's change of form!" Mateta's change of form is because of Glasner and a team assisting him. Unlike Roy, Glasner demands that they create chances and don't park the bus for 90 minutes in search of a pathetic, uninspiring, point.

you have to give managers a bit of respect - they have an eye for the game we don't, but how can Pardew play Benteke with two wingers who play on the opposite wing to their 'foot' (Zaha and Townsend) who cut inside and don't deliver crosses when the guy lived for crosses - Big Sam gets them to cross and bingo he starts scoring. Got to get a system to fit the players not the other way round.

Sorloth didn’t look fit when he was with us and certainly didn’t have the pace JPM has now. It's a shame we'll never know whether he would have achieved his impressive current form if we hadn't parted company? However, best of luck to the lad.

Some players just enjoy working for certain managers. They tend to be the ones who get the best out of a player (And team).
