And now I read that one of the 4 belts held by this 'unified' champion is about to be stripped thereby 'disunifying' the world championship once more.

What a farcical affair boxing is. If anyone fully deserved the term "mug punter", it must surely be the boxing fan who pays for this charade.

That was known well in advance. I think Hergovic is fighting Dubois for it soon (I may be wrong though).

That detail makes it no less farcical in my eyes.

Fury is an unbelievably tough boxer when Usyk had sent him to the never realm with a perfect combo, Fury somehow invoked some primordial instinctive fight or flight mechanic, its genuinely amazing how he stayed on his feet as long as he did, his recovery from these kind of blows is superhuman.

I think Fury will seriously consider retirement, he cant keep taking these kind of blows to the head.

the elderly Muhammad Ali springs to mind. Boxing can be terrifying sometimes. And therefore i would never begrudge those blokes for the huge money they can win.
Sometimes its even enough to keep the taxman & the ex wife at bay.

Fury claims that he really won the fight. Must be still punch-drunk. Usyk battered him.

Another payday. Makes sense at their age; if Fury wins they're set for a decider then retirement.

At least they're both boxers and not YouTubers or social influencers or whatever nonsense they expect people to pay to watch.

Yep, I'm looking forward to the 5 v 5 Matchroom/Queensbury card on the 1st of June.

Amusing David Haye reaction during Fury's near knockout in round 9.

No love lost there then.

It looked to me like DH was doing some kind of spaced-out dance grooves.

S'funny isn't it Nick, how we imagine each other to be. It's like voices on the radio never seem to match the face.

I certainly never had you down as a boxer. Your usual posts don't equate to that fact in my reckoning.

Anyway I understand your comments about the sport, and also what Hrolf writes about keeping it off the streets. But I still can't get excited about it, especially considering the ludicrous amount of money involved.

As I say POG, I've boxed from an early age and did once love the sport but I've become somewhat disillusioned with it beyond Rich Riakhporhe of late!

Might just be me, but I'm not very inspired by many fighters and also it all seems too immature/money orientated now. I think I lost any interest in AJ whatsoever once he started talking like a 14 year old as he often does now, for one example. I at first thought 'he just can't trash talk well' but it all does seem quite 'teenagery' than anything else these days.

The actual boxing, the bravado and spectacle around it all seems a far cry from years past. Maybe the world is just moving too quickly for me atm and I'm not taking enough notice but I can't remember the last time I was really revved up for a fight. Might have been when Hatton fought Mayweather, far back as that!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Yes Nick, the fight game has certainly changed and like I said, I've never been a fan, but the only time I got excited about it was when Henry Cooper managed to floor Cassius Clay. And that was 61 years ago. Crikey!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
