Roy does deserve a proper goodbye. People have been praising Glasner and so they should but we say if what Roy had he did not do well add in 2 new signings plus players returning from injury we performed.
Next season and the following will be the real tests. Roy would not have wanted Munoz and I believe (not ITK) that he wanted Kalvin Phillips not Wharton.

Let’s ask Mateta if he’d rather have Roy back. If Roy had the first team fit he’d just have ten different players behind the ball. Calm down, dear! Where did grumpymort say Roy should come back? He merely said that the man deserves a proper goodbye. How can any Palace fan find issue with that? Reading through his fat-fingers typing, he also speculates what OG would have done with the painfully thin, injury-ravaged squad that Roy was trying to manage, which surely is a fair point and we'll never know the answer. Incidentally and with obvious hindsight, RH got us to within 3 points of PL survival.
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

Reading player interviews it is clear they are happier now with everything across the board. Also having Glasner gives us a chance to keep our best players. Roy definitely deserves a good send off, he did a lot for this club over the years. Perhaps next season something can be arranged for one of the games. Glasner seems a very respectful man and spoke well of Roy on occasions, so to have the players, so seems it would suit the whole club. If Roy doesn’t want the attention then it will be great to see him as a special guest in the stands

Testimonial for ward in the summer, with palace playing a palace 11 managed by Roy. I'd rather watch a Joel Ward Palace team managed by Roy Vs a Steve Coppell invitation team. Sir Steve would (I'm sure) happily share the applause with Roy. Everyone wins.

IMO - his last stint just showed how desperately he was out of touch with the modern game and tactics. It was season too far - should have stayed retired after the season before..!! He’ll always be one of our own - but OG has proved just how much time had caught up with Roy in the end..!! COYP

I am of the opinion that CPFC will do something to thank Roy publicly (IDK anything) but my gut feeling would have been that we didnt do anything end of season because: a) Maybe feelings were still a bit raw over the way he left b) Maybe it was considered a time to plant OG front & centre stage given the tremendous end of season run we had, a kind of nod towards looking forward rather than back ? If it was me I would see if there is any mileage in bringing Roy / Ray in for the next end of season award ceremony to present him / them with some form of gratitude / lifetime award thingy -

Alongside Jacey, I think Plaistow Eagle's post was 'spot on' too. It feels as though Glasner may as well have arrived in a spaceship to take over from Roy, such is the distance between the approaches. That said, keeping a club like ours in the top flight is no easy task. Roy achieved that for us and if we are/are ever going on to bigger and better things, he would have to be identified as delivering the platform on which that success was built. He should be remembered and always welcomed back fondly. No, I do not desire his return in any management capacity but with Roy as a fan and servant of the club, that door should always be open and the invite extended to him.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I have seen nothing official on this so it is just guess. I still thjink OG was approached in the summer, Roy and Ray agreed to stand for just one last season. OG could then relax, assemble his coaching team, agree a deal at leisure while enjoying some critical down time before he dives straight back into the volcano... and then Roy's health took a tumble. If true, Roy did not leave under a cloud. He left 4 months earlier than planned due to circumstances outside anyone's expectations or control. As such, some sort of testimonial for them would be nice and appropriate if Roy and Ray are agreed to it.

Roy and Ray do indeed fully deserve a 'proper Palace send off'
