He has something around a one goal in three ratio overall. Not even a striker but his overall record is excellent. His current form is questionable but in his favour, he's usually not on the pitch for long either. I would guess his application and work rate has fallen over the years and he's well down the pecking order now. Except in Southgate's head - where he's probably a nailed on selection.

It’s all well and good highlighting the number of goals he scored when he was in his prime but that doesn’t take into account all the opportunities he squandered for the team by not passing to a team mate who was better placed to score. Time after time he runs into blind alleys and shoots when there’s nothing on. This is the reason why City flicked him and Chelsea were duped into buying him.

My point is, he might score 15 goals a season but he probably also costs the team at least 10 goals by being over greedy.

You need to look at the wider picture with him in particular the frustration he causes to attacking team mates.

Sterling is past his best - even Southgate hasn't picked him in recent International windows - what more evidence do you need?

I thought we were past bringing in PL players who are past their best other than the odd freebie (Lerma) or small fee players for squad duties (Holding).

Also, as has been said above, he wastes too many good chances by taking the wrong option (and because of his tunnel vision).

I wouldn't want to swap any of our star players for Sterling.

Yep. It would be a major mistake on a number of fronts to sign him.

1. Past his best
2. Greedy
3. Disruptive
4. Wage bill too high.

His three best seasons at City were;

17-18 - Sterling scored 23 in 46 games. City won the league and broke the record for goals scored in a PL season with 106.

18-19 - Sterling scored 25 in 51 games. City won the league and broke the top flight record for goals scored by an English team in a single season with 169 goals in all comps.

19-20 - Sterling scored 31 in 52 games. The team came 2nd in the league but did score the most goals with 102 compared with Liverpool's 85.

There's nothing there to suggest Sterling is detrimental to his team's output, and in fact, he was one of the biggest contributors in one of the best attacking teams the league has ever seen.

I agree with you that he can be wasteful, but the bigger picture is a player who still achieves an exceptionally high output at the highest level.

One of the most underrated players of this generation, for me.

But no, I don't think we should or would sign him at this stage of his career.

Ok but I find him incredibly frustrating to watch. He never seems to glance up to spot team mates in better positions. Head down and tunnel vision making him more of an individual rather than team player.

Yes. The best strikers all have a greedy streak in them but there’s a balance…

Anyway. Good luck to him but not us please.

63 Prem assists which puts him in the top 20 of all time...

I'm not trying to catch you out with this, just highlighting that sometimes our perception of players isn't always fair - Sterling, in particular, gets a hard time from a lot of football fans, much of which I think is undeserved.

So chelsea want to swap a player past his prime with maybe 2 years left in him, who is over paid and has a high opinion of himself V a player who has 8 years left in him, is getting better and better and doesn't celebrate a goal because he missed a chance a few minutes earlier.

Yeah, we should bite their hand off...........

can't believe this has got so many responses. Clearly pure clickbait.
Whether you like Sterling or not, he is on over £300k a week and so is not in our price range.

Even if he was interested in a move to us, which i very much doubt, he is 29 and on the way down. One to avoid.

Quite, see my response above.

He would not take the come down in wages or status or play second fiddle to JPM.

And we would not have him as a makeweight as we will not be selling any player to them.

However, imagine him saying he is happy to be a squad player on £50k p/w without any player going the other way, just to be part of our new journey and stay in his native London (as opposed to spending one season in Saudi for £billions..?). Unlikely, in extreme, but I could be persuaded (for what that's worth).
