A progressive journalist. Now charged with sending kiddy pictures over wassap. "A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Huw Edwards, 62, of Southwark, London has been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children following a Met Police investigation. "The offences, which are alleged to have taken place between December 2020 and April 2022, relate to images shared on a WhatsApp chat." (BBC 29 July 2024)

The case has not been heard, so no defence or explanation given. It’s best we await the conclusion of that before making assumptions. More importantly Edwards was paid for presenting the news. Usually very well. That’s what our money funded. I would think his colleagues at the BBC, and their management, are as shocked and distressed at the news as anyone. Probably more so as it taints them too.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

I've sat here and racked my brains but I can find no reasonable defense of or explanation for making indecent images of children and sharing them in a private social media group......... perhaps you can come up with some? (reasons or defense that is - not images...)

After he was suspended, his pay needed to be frozen. It's clear the BBC knew of these allegations. Yet, continued to pay a suspected sex offender. Must be in their HR handbook. I bet they pay for his internet too. Complicit is what some may say.

If guilty, but with extenuating circumstances due to mental health issues, expect a tonne of abuse to be thrown around here.

They would not risk trying to penalise a sick man.

Go into any prison and the percentage of inmates wth mental health issues is astonishingly high. Extenuating circumstances didn't help them.

Given your love of the BBC the allegations around another potential nonce at the organisation must be upsetting. However, you raise an interesting point. Maybe this stuff is ingrained within the organisation and perhaps there are WhatsApp groups within that share, joke and laugh about this stuff. I think you’re on to something and all of their phones need to be examined to root this evil out - just like they’re doing with the Met Police. I suspect it’s rife. Because IF it is true and IF it is WhatsApp then who is he getting the images from and sending them to?
