Work in progress. This has been a decidedly undistinguished season. Accepted that injuries, especially to Doucoure, Eze and Olise (Luton away was a nightmare) have hampered progress. But if we can't beat Luton at home, who can we beat? 38 points is normally enough to stay up (for another season of toil) and perhaps this year,Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United won't get anywhere near that. Which is just as well. Three more wins? Looking at the remaining fixtures, I can't see who they will come against. Not out of the woods yet.

Early days as others have said but I have enjoyed the way we have played in the two home games that Glasner has presided over. We are looking to get on the front foot and give ourselves scoring opportunities and long may that continue. I think the next 3 weeks are a godsend for us, giving Glasner precious time with most of the squad to improve fitness and improve the development of the new system. Our performances against Forest and Bournemouth will tell us just how much the squad have improved. They are both winnable matches IMO.

The trouble with that is that PVA was better going forward but was a mediocre defender, to put it mildly: well inferior to Tyrick, imo. The number of times I can remember shouting at him to close the winger down before he crosses, which on many, many occasions he didn't. PVA better attacking, TM better at defending, is my take on it. Agreed

I think it's too soon to judge. The players seem to be slowly gaining fitness, but the fact that they can do so is a sign (a ) of how Roy set them up previously and that he could have done more for their fitness. The fact we are pressing a little (against mostly weak teams but with some positive outcomes) is very much to be expected. The cleverness and efficacy of that press will only become evident with time and even more fitness. If he is working them hard, their underlying fitness might be rising but they might also be leg weary as their bodies adjust. Where all that leaves Eze will also only become evident after that fitness process works out. If our full backs are able to push forward and add to our midfield combativeness, then we might see him getting a lot more of the ball higher up the pitch. But only time will tell. This little period where our non internationals can get away and train will give Glasner a chance to work them so perhaps some judgment from Forest onwards will be legitimate. However, the real picture emerged after 5-10 games into next season when he's had a pre season, the squad is hopefully settled, and those early season weird games are out of the way.

Given that he is now on board, has a dozen or so games to form opinion(s), (assuming we are not relegated) he will have a full pre season, whereas some other clubs will have playoff hangover & maybe newly appointed managers during that pre season - perhaps we can even capitalise on some of those weird early season games & get a few points on the board instead of being a casualty of not being ready as we have for some seasons. Agree with all of that. Assuming we stay up (we should), Glasner coming in early may be quite a blessing. Instead of that couple weeks in the summer to arrive and start implementing things, leading to a stuttered start to the season which immediately has us on a back foot, I am hoping that by this summer - his system is near installed, the players and OG/his staff are familiar with one another and the style of play, we get some reinforcements in and can start the season flying as opposed to in the early stages of a transition. Just hopes and dreams as ever
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Good points. And from his comments on Dougie, it appears that they will soon start planning for next season in terms of the playing squad.

Sorry just to be clear, I'm only saying early season games -- good or bad -- don't really offer good insights into much. We/the opposition may be under cooked and so it takes a few games to know how it is really going. We could have a great start.

Of course, it depends how much input Glasner has to the recruitment strategy. He has a rep for wanting more control but that may clash with Freedman who may be subject to poaching, particularly if his role is diminished

Since Glaser's arrival, it is apparent that we were losing ground with the progression of football at large. Our players were not fit enough and probably not using the latest cutting edge fitness techniques and playing strategies.
