My apologies. The result I saw only bothered with those getting more than 1000 votes. The main point though stands. In a "Red Wall" seat, for Reform to get less votes than a candidate who wasn't actually standing is a disaster for them and a ray of hope for everyone else.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

I would be interested to know what they said that amounted to anti- semitism. That is, was is actually antisemitic or fair comment that somebody mis-labelled as that?

I was always entitled to a postal vote as a UK citizen living in the common travel area but not sure of eligibility changes.

Yup I think those eligible was quite a long list I just gave some examples but essentially you had to have a good reason not to show up in person. About 30 years ago an Asian factory owner got caught he had made his employees ask for a postal vote and had then collected and filled them in. We have done the ethnic community no favours in relaxing the rules, it just leaves then open to intimidation by "community leaders".

Most interesting part of this by-election in Rochdale is the rather dramatic Downing street speech by Sunak. By any kind of conventional political meter, the Tories should have been jumping for joy today. Here we had a rock solid Labour seat where they manage to not only just lose but get wiped out, after having had to back out of supporting their own candidate. And absolute disaster. And yet all we get is a CONSERVATIVE Prime Minister, going live on prime-time TV, to say that Galloways win is alarming. This is an open goal for the Tories. Labour literally politically eviscerated by any kind of measure. They f*** up the selection, they then lose their Muslim client vote, they make every mistake going. Cannot even come second. Not even third. Fourth. A piss poor fourth. On the back of 20% point leads in every national poll. So what does Sunak do? Make all this fuss about showing the world how sad he is. Sunak should be dancing in the streets. Instead we get that BS tonight. Believe me now about the Tories wanting to lose the election?
