Exactly the sort of solution a decent manager would have found within our squad months, if not years ago - this sort of decision will be the biggest upgrade under Glasner IMO; finding solutions within the squad as opposed to trying to fit square pegs into the same flawed system. It's a great fit for Ward at this stage of his career - he still reads the game very well and has excellent positioning.

Should he be badly exposed by the pace of Son,Richarlison and Werner on Saturday, which of course is feasible, the narrative will soon change from one of positivity to negativity.

The whole point is that playing more centrally reduces the risk of him being left isolated with the sorts of players you mention. It doesn't suddenly make him world-class, but it provides him more protection. If he happens to get beat by a world-class forward on Saturday, it doesn't change the fact that this role is a better fit for him at this stage of his career and nor does it change the fact he still reads the game well and has very good positioning.

Guehi, Anderson, Richards. Just becuase Wardy looked more at home against the most shockingly Sh1t team I've seen at Selhurst in recent memory does not automatically make him Paulo Maldini. He did OK in a back3 granted, better than he has of late as a full back, however please remember the quality of the opposition he was up against, the didnt register a shot at goal until the 66th minute, such was the pattern of the game. Im not saying ward was/is rubbish in that role, just that he was up against some proper dog tits players, and it will be wildly different against Spuds. So for me when fit it should be Guehi Anderson Richards.

This. If he is to be caught for pace it tends to be in the first third of the game. He then works out the oppo and for the last hour beats them through guile and positioning. We just need to ride that first half hour.

I have always felt that in the twilight of his career Ward would be best suited to playing centrally rather than at full-back and entertained the possibility that he would 'Plough his furrow' in central defence at a club in the lower divisions.
