Chelsea missed a trick there thinking they would get him by agreeing to Blackburn's wishes and not considering the player's.
Blackburn wanted £20m and for him to be loaned straight back (which I read that Chelsea readily agreed to). Palace made it clear they wouldn't pay more than £18m and were not willing to loan him back. That scenario would on paper look like we'd be out of the running until Adam Wharton makes it clear if he leaves Blackburn he doesn't want to be loaned back. He also presumably didn't really fancy sitting on Chelsea's bench either. Lets face it, he's not walking straight into their team. So amazingly we got him.
I think he is top class and still cant believe he is only 19. For me he starts every game but needs to be closely monitored. Tiredness can really be a problem for players of such a young age playing at such a high level. They rarely admit to needing a rest because they fear losing their place in the team so it needs to be watched carefully.
But for me? If he is fresh and fit he has to play. Even when Doucoure is back I'd rather drop the reliable Lerma than Wharton

Along with Franca, I think that they both need a longish run in the team to develop an understanding, I remember Zaha and Bolasie were forgiven their mistakes while they were getting experience so why not give these two the same.

Agree with you there. If Doucoure does return fully fit and able then it will be Lerma's place that will be at risk and, on the basis of what I've seen of Wharton so far he ahs to be a "shoe-in". His first thought when he receives the ball is whether he can make a forward pass.

Looking forward to seeing what he can do against Burnley tomorrow.

Wharton is in a different league to Franca.

He'll start every game he's fit for. When Doucoure comes back, Lerma will drop to the bench.
