Yes!!!!!!!! No guarantee of any return to prem anytime soon. No guarantee of finishing in the top 6 with loss of players due to relegation Just not worth thinking about until it is mathematically possible we could get relegated Which I don’t think will happen - anyway

Absolutely terrible. History tells us that it would probably lead to 10 years in the wilderness before we made it back to the big time. Isn’t the dream to get to the top? Okay things aren’t rosy at the moment but let’s stay up, get a young enthusiastic coach, play more expansive football, blend in some youngsters with great potential and this crap spell will soon be forgotten.

I've always thought the academy was likely to be of more use to the club if we were relegated but as the clubs generally slash spending and staff I wonder how that would work. The new stand would be the first thing for the chop I would imagine.

It wouldn't be such a bad idea. At least, not unless you want to see your team playing in the top division. If you are happy with relegation, and watching your team playing against less proficient players, and having less proficient players in your team shortly after relegation, you really shouldn't be *supporting* any team, of any sport. You would want your team to be at the top of the top division. And to get to the top of the top division, you have to be in it.

This post highlights exactly why we are in such a bad shape.. A club in our position should have a plan b - we should have never broken our transfer policy and we should have worked hard to invest in youth. We've thrown it all away to stay in a league that has given us no reward whatsoever. In 2013 we should have looked at is as punching above our weight and just enjoyed the ride. And how much of the revenue brought in by those sales would be spent on the team ? I would have serious doubts. In conclusion, would relegation be bad idea, YES. Yes it would.

I don't mind us being a stepping stone.. for me, it's about enjoyment... I haven't enjoyed palace for a long, long time.

Some of us remember the first time we were relegated from the top tier, back in 1971. Full of hubris, Big Mal had the Selhurst pitch widened so our classy players could exploit the space left by inferior Div II sides, and he gave all the squad stupid nicknames (Hammond in goal was 'The Cage' I recall).

We got our first win in December 4-2 - can't remember against who but I do remember my mate got so carried away when the third goal went in that he ran onto the pitch at Whitehorse Lane end and was escorted from the ground by police and so missed the fourth goal. He waited for me outside (I had the car) and on the way home we had to pinch ourselves to believe we had actually won that game.

Ona a side note, how are we planning to finance the approved new stand anyway?.

In a nutshell Yes. Only one place to go from the Championship and that is back to the Premiership. No amount of experience in that league is going to help a team higher up. You can have a great season like Burnley and still really struggle.

Having endured 45 minutes of the Millwall v. Preston game a couple of weeks ago, the thought of watching that level of football regularly has no appeal to me.
