While proper PL stars are likely to be shining by the age of 21, it is harder to spot the Jeff Schlupps and Joel Wards of the world. The players who will contribute but who might not stand out immediately. For example, Jake O'Brien looked like a quality player, but he was already 22 when he left us and was nowhere near the first team and now he's one of the first names on the sheet for Lyon. It was also interesting to hear Warnock talking about how the youth team coach told him Moses and Scannell were not ready but he ignored that advice and threw them both in. The rest is history.

He doesn't get talked about much but I've been quite impressed by Jadan Raymond when I've seen him play.

Well, going by last nights game away to Le Havre he was culpable for LeH 1st goal, looked lost, team mates not passing to him & then after a series of silly tackles, finally got a straight red for a reckless one. Le Harve won 3-1.

Didn't realise that Lacazette & Maitland-Niles play for Lyon. Raymond scored the 1st equaliser for the U21's y/day

To be honest, I was just going on O'Brien's stats and comments in the media (and the fact he has three goals and an assist in his last eight games). Maybe last night was an off night?

Let's hope so, for his sake, tho atm, he's going to have 3 'off-nights' now.

I thought O'Brien had potential.

But at 22 and with Guehi and Andersen in front of him it made sense to go elsewhere to get first team football.

We could yet see him again in the EPL / Championship

The referee for the Le Harve game was an ex Ligue1 footballer on his first top flight match. According to reports he ignored the laws, allowed reckless tackles, sent off two Lyon players and had a real stinker. O Brien was his first victim. So much for ex-players becoming referees.

There is nothing quite like a midweek winters training session in Aberdeen to culture your love for the beautiful game!

With our non signings this window plus signings made in the last year that aren’t good enough to play under Hodgson I wonder why Phillips has been allowed to go out on loan again. Surely with Doucoure out Phillips would be ideal to have on the bench for the remainder of this season? The reviews he has got has been excellent but now we loan him to Aberdeen? I suppose he is to young in Hodgson’s eyes?

John-Kymani Gordon started for AFC Wimbledon yesterday in their 2-1 win over Mansfield.
He was substituted after 67 mins, replaced by Ronan Curtis who scored the winner in the 97th minute.
