he wants first team football and a chance to advertise himself for the Euros, he's a very good player and could fill the hole left by Doucoure perfectly, the fact that he hasn't maintained fitness and could require a very big loan payment is off-putting, but we could give him a chance to show what he can do.

Man City wanted a 5m loan fee with obligation to buy.

I guess he won't be going anywhere at that rate.

Well that is £2.5 million down on the first page. Maybe if we get this thread to 50 pages we might be able to afford him.

There are certain players who 100% would not join Palace, even on loan. Pretty sure both Phillips and Henderson are on that list.

Firstly we couldn't afford their wages let alone a loan fee.
Secondly, the club tried the big signings with Benteke and Sakho etc and both were very expensive mistakes.
Thirdly and most importantly even if we had the money i strongly suspect they would prefer to play for almost every other Prem club rather than us. So unless we are the only club bidding, it won't happen.

Both did wonders for us in the short-term...which is why we'd only be looking for a loan this time.

I don't necessarily disagree with the rest of your points. I think we could find the money for their wages if our predicament was dire enough, but I don't get the impression that SP is feeling things are that bad.

both were signed for a combined c£55m and on long term contracts. Their combined wages were c£225k a week.

To justify this daylight robbery is just bizarre IMHO.

Only yesterday i read someone asking where the AWB money went. Clearly they have forgotten about 2 years of covid losses but these 2 cost us in total over £100m.

God please no. I’m not sure who caused me more despair when taking the pitch for England.. him or Henderson. It’s no surprise they’re both now scratching around for a new club.

Let someone else be suckers..not us.

They are both average at best.

Eagle Black

He could probably do a reasonable to good job for us but his wages would be out of sync with his true ability.

We obviously see different things in players and Southgate is firmly in your camp with this.. I always thought Southgate stuck with him more for mentoring reasons to build his confidence etc rather than form or ability. Odd I know but then again Southgate is odd.

I’d support him if he came to us though.

He barely plays for his club so should be nowhere near the England squad. It would be ideal if he came to Palace for both parties. Obviously will not happen.

Agreed. He is good at the press, strong in the tackle, his range of passing is superior to anyone we have in our midfield and listening to quotes from Pep, he's a great character to have in the dressing room as well. He doesn't go to City without having any talent and when fit and playing regularly he's a starter for England.

For all these reasons, he will not be coming to Palace.

If this happens it will be at the end of the window.

City will start the window off looking for a big loan fee and wages paid in full.

Kalvin will start the window off looking for a top team.

As we near the end of Jan, he'll be happy to go anywhere the will guarantee him a game, and City would be mad not to let him go even if its only covering half his wages.

File this away under deadline day potential

To be fair, I think what he's saying is that even tho he joined in January, wasn't MS in the running for player of the season, his performances were that strong?

Likewise, very, very few people could hate CB as much as I do - and the fact the club gave him a years extension - but again, when he first joined us he was our top scorer with (I think) 15 goals. I bet we'd pay £30m for a 15 goal a year striker currently, right?

So, yes, sadly it all went south with the pair of them, but I'm philosophical that without their initial efforts we would have gone down, so there was value there. Regardless the initial point was that they were both quality in the initial, short term.
