I remember after beating Burnley in 1979(?) him being carried should high into the old supporters club bar around midnight with everyone singing “some say god but we say venables…”. Team of the eighties. So many wonderful young players. The amazing 4-2 win away at Wrexham. Some of the very best of days at palace. And the euros in 96 was also quite a blast. Happy memories courtesy of EL Tel

Great bloke, great memories. Sad news, but appropriately, as manager of our team of the 80s, he passed aged 80. RIP.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

And let's not forget he is, and will be, the only player to play for England at schoolboy, youth, amateur, Under-23, and for the full international team.

RIP TV. The team of the 80s is up there with some of the best times of me watching Palace. Pipping Brighton to the title in '79 in that massive crowd against Burnley at SP will remain with me forever. Leaving the following season and taking some of that team with him to QPR blotted his Palace copy book though. He returned for an albeit brief second spell under Mark Goldberg's extravagant ownership which ended up in bankrupting the club. Supposedly, for a £750k salary, £600k house and £65k car.

Back in 79/80, I visited the training ground in Mitcham. I was allowed to call into Terry's office there. He already had a visitor. Bobby Moore. Not only did Terry make me feel very welcome, he also invited me to join in with the first team training drills ! I think that was his highly developed sense of humour coming out I know it wasn't all sweetness and light with him, but his teams gave me some of the best Palace memories. RIP TV Well said . Tel always had time for the supporters ,I arrived very early at the ground (bunked off work) to catch the coach for a pre season Kent Cup match v Gillingham ,must have been 1975 and ended up playing football tennis on the courts that were in the car park with |Tel , John Cartwright and some bloke who had just come out of the cafe . RIP TV

There’s a big match revisited on itv palace v Charlton 1974 and Terry was playing for us. No big surprise but as someone who started going in 1975 I only really remember him as our coach then manager , so it did seem a bit funny actually seeing him in the red and blue
