Don't really know why we have to wait till the end of the season , if the new person is free get them in earlier and move Roy upstairs. Some of the names being thrown around on here are not inspirational ,Nuno No, Southgate no, O Neil No, Paddy definitely No . Is Potter still available , also the guy who was at Wolves recently Lopetgui

I fear it could be Southgate. Good media man and that's about it. I don't think fans of any PL would want him. Not up to it.

My man would be Potter. Was fantastic overseas and set the foundations for Brighton which De Zerbi has since built on.

What I think will happen is that Palace will finish about 9th and Roy will be offered another year which he will accept. I'd be fine with that, he's doing well, knows his stuff and the players clearly respect and respond well to him.

Really?

Did Pep, SAF, Ancelloti, Arteta, Coppell, et al do that? Think they were pretty successful nes pas?

I've always had a hunch that Parish is waiting on Southgate.
What questions will be asked at interview? Staying in the PL is obviously top priority, I think it would need someone with previous experience. Paddy doesn't have that, I'd be amazed if he ends up in the role.

James McArthur has just retired, perhaps give him go? Maybe have Joel Ward as an assistant manager/captain hybrid? Maybe Clinton Morrison could come in and give up his Soccer Saturday gig?

there are people in football, who havent played for Palace!! Why do we have this obsession with ex players?

If we end the season 9th and Roy stays on and his strength holds, then what is there not to like. He is a canny Old Fox and we are in safe hands with him. I suppose what we are discussing is when Roy goes. He has only got a year on his contract as I understand it, so please Palace dont lets have another season end dither. Either keep him or not, assuming he is up for it.

Because its the palace way, and we love them.

Excellent idea, get them all in.

I suspect Goal Machine was being facetious, and very much tongue-in-cheek

I may be out of the loop here, being all the way over in NZ, but I don't quite understand the distain for Southgate. Has he not overseen one of the best periods of English football in recent history? From where I'm sitting, we've been as close to glory in the past few years as we ever have. I accept he's not necessarily expansive or innovative, but hello...Roy.

Perhaps the reason stems from the fact that in his only club managerial post, Middlesbrough were relegated and their win percentage under Southgate was about 30%.

Southgate?
1) Steve Holland does the coaching for England, not Southgate.
2) Southgate’s preachy manner grates on many and he often ends up contradicting himself (e.g on Qatar and Saudi) depending upon which way the wind is blowing or what the flavour of the month is.
3) There is no outstanding team in world football at present- I.e not a patch on the past Brazil, West Germany, Argentina, France and Netherlands teams . It could be argued that Southgate is if anything underachieving considering the players at his disposal.
A record of semi final and final may look good in comparative terms , but how many world class teams were beaten in those runs?
4) Some of the affection for Southgate appears to be on misplaced sentiment based on the fact that he came up through the youth team and captained a promotion winning team. Nonetheless, he always had his eye on the main chance and has never really shown any loyalty or affinity for Palace.
5) As Willo points out, he was not a success as a club level manager despite working under one of the most supportive chairmen in the league.

Feel free to disagree, but I’m unimpressed.
Let’s see if when he does leave England whether any Champions League team bite.
I recall when he was trying to negotiate a new contract for England, his agent started leaking stories that Man Utd were interested.
In a perverse way that would have been a very good fit, and I don’t mean that as a compliment.
