Not as skinny but Jimmy Cannon is 70 and I remember his debut when he scored against Chelsea. Our first league (1st Division) win against a London team, I think. Just before my time, but I’ve seen the footage many times and I always thought he didn’t look 19, he looked hard even then, no nervy teenager stuff for big Jim, especially when he got booked

When Dave Madden could not get a game and the rumour went around that he was shagging Coppell’s wife. I mentioned it to one of the away day organisers and he burst into laughter and said he had made it up on the last away game! Impressive bulls*** as it went around like wild fire.

Lombardo's career with us was bizarre. He went from winning Serie A twice, the Cup Winners Cup and the Champions League in Italy, to joining Palace, becoming our manager at the age of about 32, playing for us in the Championship, then leaving to go back to Italy to win Serie A again, the Coppa Italia, the Cup Winners Cup again and the UEFA Super Cup. The fact that we had Lombardo in the same squad as Dave Tuttle, Sagi Burton and Rory Ginty was insane by itself.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

Steve Kember in his last stint as Palace boss was selling knock off watches to the first team, none of whom had a clue they were fake. Edited by Ouzo Dan (04 Nov 2023 10.41am)

All stories relating to Mark Dennis... An absolute headcase but a pretty good player too. I can't remember the full story regarding a reserve game, but rumour had it he ran on pitch and flattened a player. Unsure of details and whether true, but certainly something he would do.
Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs. |

I also remember he did charge half the pitch when Nigel Martyn made his debut. It kicked off and he went after Gazza. That's the quickest I saw him move but was extremely funny. Sadly he got hooked on cocaine just after joining us and his career spiralled as he was a brilliant player in his day, but can understand why England would never pick him.
