I seem to remember Terry and June, "vote for Medford". In fact, Starmer is a bit Terry-like. Perhaps not as dapper.

The entire point of him being there is so that the Tories lose. No other explanation makes sense. He was literally handed the job on the plate.

He lost to Truss when it was put out there to the membership. She makes the henious mistake of actually trying to put Conservative policies in place and then she is done in by a coup.

With Sunak effectively elevated to the job with zero chance of turning it around.

If you accept that the Tory high command WANT to lose the next GE then everything Sunak has done makes perfect sense.

The heinous mistake Truss made was to think she could adopt policies that the markets wouldn’t react to in such a way as to cause enormous damage to the economy.

Living in a dream world in which you can do whatever you wish without consequences was political suicide.

I'm not sure if I could wholeheartedly back the statement that the Tories 'want to lose' however at the very least they look to have run out of any fight or energy for it.

The by-election results are not anything worthy of celebration for anyone as I see it however. It's just the demonstration of people choosing to back the other horse in a race of two where one has lost it's legs completely.

I'll stick with my analogy of having to choose between two of the long succession on useless forwards we've had up front. Stick one in until you remember how useless they are and switch back to the other once you've somewhat forgotten how useless he is. Any other parties or independents are a bit like the youth players who may seem like a good idea, in lieu of the obvious options, but almost certainly not a reality that will manifest.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Labour have achieved Harold Wilson's law of election absenteeism, getting those who would not normally bother, out to vote.

These are remarkable victories from a not very remarkable labour party, and that really tells you everything about the tories.

If you prefer a life of crime the law and order party are definitely for you, now you won't go to prison anyway.

If Labour win in 24, it will not be about how much people want a Labour government.

It will be a combination of Tory self harm, COVID, not remembering how hopeless Labour are, and the rise of right wing parties because of the destruction of this country via immigration.

Kier Starmer will be the least popular leader to ever be Prime Minister. He won't last long.
We will also have the unfortunate experience of seeing the loony left wing of the party magically re emerge right after the election.

I attended 'Conference' on all 4 days and as ever it was a wonderful experience.

Being on the 'Right' of the party I particularly enjoyed the contributions of Suella,Braverman, Dame Priti Patel etc etc and I delighted in extending the hand of friendship with some well-known figures in the party.
My goodness, what a wonderful few days.

On HOL, I concentrate my efforts on the football discussions and stay well clear of the political debates as I regularly experience the cut and thrust of political dialogue outside this cherished site, accordingly I have nothing further to add and will continue my deliberations with my fellow Conservative chums !!

You should’ve said Willo. I was there for 5 days (Saturday to Wednesday) and we could’ve met up! Next year it is then.

I saw today that there must be a general election before Jan 2025.

With this in mind, surely the Tory party have enough time to get all those right wing papers behind them, get a start on massaging the figures, allied with a full quota of anti-Labour witch hunts etc orchestrated by the right wing media to make victory not out of the question?

Just saying.
