correct evaluation. we have kept are best players during a spending feeding frenzy. we are a fair to middling club staying in a league with our levels is testament to a well run club, see charlton leeds portsmouth etal quote=Jefroc;3822177]

At the end of the season Palace had FIVE players who could easily have been boudght by Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool Spurs and who knows who else. Olise, Ebs, Decoure Guehi and Anderssen have all stayed even though up to yesterday there was talk of Ebs going to Spurs. That they didn't is all praise to Parish and Freedman. They kept a really good squad together. Plus Palace have another top class goalkeeper, a proven EPL defender, a potentially excellent attacking striker/midfielder and another really fine midfielder. Further Palace have three players in the England squad.

Running a football club is not the same as playing a video game - it's real RESPONSIBLE life! Yet all I read on these pages are pitiful bleatings from the same NEGATIVE MOANERS!!!

To not get another striker is a massive problem, Edouard and Mateta do not give us enough of a cutting edge at this level. If the likes of Forest and Bournemouth can do It, why on earth can’t we?

SP tells us we are an “established Premiership side” then it’s about time we started acting like one!

Just because they’ve signed strikers, doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to be any good, maybe the right striker at the right price for us wasn’t available, at the end of the day we’ve got two strikers, usually only one plays, so if we can’t get a better one than those two, another one would be a waste of money. I’m just thinking how they’re thinking because I’d have loved a goal scorer, but some teams throw money around aimlessly, we’re a bit more frugal and if a player doesn’t improve the squad we don’t bother, or so it appears

This to me is probably the fairest summary so far and also it is expressed in a more concise way than in my original post.

Not a window to push on to the top 10 but one for a sensible mid table finish.

Keepers: strengthened a bit and Henderson / Johnstone should be a good for several seasons to come.

Central defenders: strengthened a bit. Holding probably a better option than Tomkins.

Central midfield: Lerma in, two great players well past their best, Luca and Jimmy Mac, out. Definite upgrade.

Wide positions and striker - a poor window. We just have to hope Franca turns out to be good and that Olise fully recovers.

The squad is thin, any big injuries to key players and we will struggle.

Next summer will be a massive test as we are bound to lose one or two of our big names. Let’s hope we are better prepared than we were for the loss of Wilf.

There was no pressure to sell any of our top players as they are all on decent length contracts and in all cases they have not reached their value ceiling. It is not a victory holding onto these players, it is straightforward business sense.

With the exception of Olise we don't know whether there was any genuine interest in any of our players. There was a lot of media chatter about Eze, Doucoure, Andersen and Guehi but for all we know it was just that as I don't believe that any concrete offers were received

Just what I was about to say. It would seem that they is a veritable army of "journalists" out there repeating the same clickbait nonsense to obtain revenue. Our very own "dazza" is part of the same circus.

My review.

Meh!

Mistake selling O'Brian and replacing him with holding.

At least Rak Sayki is staying. Gordon gone, Do we have enough to fill the bench?

Can we sign free agents outside of the window? There could be an option or 2 that Parish and Doug are looking at if that's the case.

Parish has said the click bait is usually about half right so I expect the ratio of these rumours is about right.

The Liverpool pursuit of Decoure seemed kosher. Didn't Klopp refer to it in interview.
