He played well. Quick and some good vision and passing. Thr lad looks like he could be another brilliant signing if given the minutes.

You could see Ozoh and Franca were quality, both on a different planet to jairo and Schlupp, Surely Roy can see they are ready for starting-

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

Doubt it, in his post match interviews he stated he had to get our best senior players on the pitch & find a way of getting Ward & Clyne on together, that's why he went 5 at the back. That's his mindset.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Roy will not be starting the young players.
I watched his post match press conference and his whole thought process pre game was to get his senior players on the field (in consequence at the expense of the younger players).
He explains it why he included both Ward and Clyne and changed the system to accommodate both of them.
It's why when Hughes went down sick overnight, he went for Jairo rather than Ozoh or Ahamada.
It's why he played down Franca's cameo saying 'it was easier at 2-1 down than it would have been if he started.'

Roy prefers to use senior players even if they are out of form.
No doubt this is based on a long career of solid experience, but
dare I say it is there even the slightest possibility that he could be wrong on this if the young players are good enough?

Yes the press conference told it all. Fair play he was completely honest.
Some managers come in with a set style of play and set about getting the squad to play that way, others (Roy) adapts the system to what's available.
Pep is of the former mindset - but look at his squad. FDB tried it at Palace and the outcome is history.
I think Roy's problem is the lack of use of the youngsters - even from the bench. He could blend one at a time but he's only looking to the end of the season and probably takes the view there's enough in the tank of the Seniors to get him over the line.

Olise Eze and Mitchell are all kids and all starters.

If they are up to it and fit with the game plan they play.

Add Guehi, to that . This is all rubbish about Hodgson approach to younger players.
As you say if good enough no problem. But a lot of young players can go really well for 10 minutes, but take ages to do 90 in particular at this so demanding level.
Hodgson will blend some in over the season, but it seems never enough for some.
Maybe they actually think he is a bitter old man, that hates the idea of youth making progress in the industry.?

Let's hope Roy has seen the quality of our young players can make an impact. In his last tenure, most on here were grumbling about his apparent reluctance to use subs at all. Yesterday his decision to play Franca and Ahamada was inspired, who, coupled with Ozoh gave us 18,19 and 21 yr olds in our team. OK, so they were subs not starters, but they nearly earned us 3 points.

Also good to see Eze come on briefly and make a couple of his trademark, quality passes.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I don't think he's a bitter old man nor a bad football manager.

I listened to his complete press conference, and from the horse's mouth so to speak his whole approach to the game was dictated by who were the most senior players available.
This meant even including Riedewald who he's been reluctant to use in matchday squads recently.

Lewis Miley is 17 and once he got in the Newcastle team he's stayed in even when senior players are available.
I doubt he'd be retaining his place under Roy.
Doesn't make me anti Roy.
It's just an observation based on Roy's own words and actions.

Not when they came here. Barely out of under twenty ones , Olize crippled playing under twenty one for France in the summer.
