VAR room at Old Trafford last night maybe not quite as blatant as that but almost certainly true to an extent.

The IFAB and FIFA are testing the new offside this season in Italy Holland and Sweden. It will give forwards an extra metre. It will come in next season for sure. Wenger has come up with it and it makes a lot of entertainment sense.

Agreed. The challenge by the keeper last night was pretty close to a martial arts full on assault. Going for the ball as a keeper doesn’t entitle you to wipe out players, more particularly when you get nowhere near the ball. That was a penalty all day long just as the one given against Palace wasn’t. The problem being ,three refs in total wouldn’t call it a pen. Most people including the refereeing bosses knew it was, yet those three contrive a blatantly wrong decision.

Any refs on here? Why was Ayew given offside at Sheffield last week? According to the Premier League the rule is as follows. Though Law 11 (offside) has not explicitly changed, the new guidelines make clear that an attacking player who is offside will not automatically become onside upon a defender touching the ball, unless it was a save. I had a think about this - so a defender can pass straight to an opposition attacker who is offside? They can score but will be disallowed as offside? The mind boggles. There is going to be mayhem. Shearer, Lineker and Wright will never get their heads round that but Pep will. Almost comical in a farcical, Benny Hill music type of way. I think VAR should be accompanied by said music and edited in that sped up but cut out, missed frame fashion.

With the utmost respect I have viewed some of the comments on the discussions pertaining to referees with incredulity and concluded that they are nor rooted in sound judgement. I shall refrain from contesting the 'Charges' for the sole reason that the debates will descend into animus and acrimony and lo and behold a dastardly 'Willo Thread' will be the outcome. In the interests of HOL I shall keep my counsel. You really are surpassing yourself already Willow!

I wish i could give you a proper answer DW, what the people at the EPL HQ do is anybody's guess, same as all big firms tho. I agree with both you & Elpis, it is a quagmire, one that thankfully i no longer have to negotiate after 40 years of reffing & then being an assessor. Trouble with the laws as they are & have been, everybody has a different interpretation of each & every one of them, Offside law being the biggest, imo. Each country has different ideas on how the game is played, the governing bodies(FA, EPL & EFL) also have different ideas as do the Refereeing bodies like the PGMOL & Referee's Association in England. Who's right? End of the day its the Ref's on the field of play. As for Ayew, he was offside before the ball was played & when it was played & before it may or may not of touched a defender, therefore, once he received it, boom, flag up. Pity, good goal otherwise. If decisions can be interpreted differently by officials gives them more wriggle room for big team bias, right?

Happened to Michael Salisbury last season as well Yes, you're right, he did, not looking good for him atm. As for your 2nd post to mine, probably will/does, tho not for a bit, they will tighten up things then it'll go back to normal after the international break. That's my guess.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |
